Yesterday's Project

Hello Everyone,

In the spirit of getting my quilts quilted, I loaded another on to my long arm yesterday.  This time is was my Which Way Is North? quilt.  You can find the pattern here.

If you remember this quilt was put together as part of an online bee, the Two's Company Bee.

Anyway, I am finally getting around to quilting this top and I love it.  Very scrappy geese.  Many different fabrics were contributed to make this quilt outstanding.  My thanks to all who were part of making this quilt.

Close up of the quilting.  I used a King Tut thread for the quilting.  I am quilting a leaf edge to edge design.

The backing is a Kaffe Fassett fabric, as well as many of the geese, and perfect for this quilt.

The quilt is now quilted and I did cut our the binding and the sleeve!! Yay!  I am usually not that quick, but am truly happy with my progress.

Oh wait, did I say binding.... ooooo that is 2 quilts to bind in 2 days!  Better get going!

Yesterday's Project

On The Long Arm

Hello Everyone,

It seems that I am making headway on my New Year's resolution to quilt my own tops!!  This excites me beyond belief!!

Yesterday, I had my Stepping Stones quilt on the long arm. I adore this quilt.  The pattern can be found here.

You must all know what it feels like to really adore a quilt that you have made, right?  This is one of those quilts.  I made it with all Kaffe Fassett fabrics from my shop.  Half of the blocks are the prints, and the other half are spots and dots.  Of course, I had to choose the brighter and bolder prints.  No pastels here.

Here is a close up of the quilting.  I am doing an edge to edge pattern of feathers.  Because there is so much going on with the prints here, I really just needed texture on this quilt.

The thread that I am using is a Superior Lava thread.  I love it because has a little sheen to it and really picks up all the colors in the fabrics.  

I think I will do the binding in the black batik that I used in the sashing.  That will frame it up nicely.  Stay tuned for more pics!

Tutorial and A Giveaway

Hello Everyone,

I have made a bright and funky table runner for you!! Well not this one, but you can make one just like it, yes you can!!

This one is now on my kitchen table and after I had it bound it was kitty approved.  I really like it as it make this dreary winter just a whee bit brighter.

Second Class Progress Mariner's Compass

Hello Everyone,

Yesterday, I taught the second session of the Mariner's Compass Technique of the Month at the Quilted Basket in Wappingers Falls, NY.  I wanted to share some progress photos with you.

Today's session was the Feathered Star.  This is Unit K.  There are three units to this Feathered Star.  This is the longest unit and most time consuming.

Andrea brought in her Total Eclipse from the class that I taught there in September.  I adore how this turned out!!  Great job, Andrea!

MaryAnn brought in her Sunflower Illusions from the same class.  Love, love, love the colors!!

These are all the units that are complete thus far.  They are getting there!!  

They look great too!  There are 8 of each of what you see above.  So there are 8 wedges.  This is going to be like a pizza and is joined together in wedges.

Next time we meet we will work on the sails.  This will change the whole look of the quilt.

Second Class Progress Mariner's Compass

Indian Summer

Hello Everyone,

On Friday, I began a NEW quilt project!  This one is a great beginner paper piecing project.  It is working up really quickly too.

I was able to complete these four units in about a half an hour.  They are F.U.N!

These are the fabrics that I am using.  There are 21 dark batiks and 7 light batiks.  I used to have this kitted in the shop, but it sold out really quickly. Hmmmm.... should I re-kit this one???

Yesterday, I had about an hour of free time and I made 7 more units.  Here is where I am at right now.

I really love the way this looks.  Usually earthy tones are not what I work with, most of you know that I  adore brights.  But I must say, I am really liking the colors here.  

In fact they are reminiscent of Indian summer, aren't they?  

I think making a few of these each day is totally doable.  Before I know it this quilt will be complete.  I love when that happens!!

Indian Summer

Finish It Up Friday

Hello Everyone,

Yesterday was Finish It Up Friday in my studio! We had some great projects going on and I wanted to share with you.

Leslie, brought along this great quilt that she made with ties and black velvet.  I am totally inspired!!

Lorraine brought back her Kaffe quilt.  It is now together, but she still needs to add rows.  Glorious!!

Finish It Up Friday

New York Beauties and Geese Circling the Lone Star

Hello Everyone,

Yesterday was Session 2 in the Glacier Star Technique of the Month that I am teaching at the Wiltwyck Quilter's Guild in New York.

These ladies ROCK!!  They completed all their New York Beauties from the first session and then we started Session 2...

Then it was onto circling geese units for Technique 2!!  Here are some of the results from today.

Everyone hard at work.  But we have one last thing....

They all worked on the Lone Star units to attach to the Circling Geese and here is one that got completed before the end of the class. 

My sister in law, Shirley's units together.  Gorgeous!  When they all come to class next time, they should have all the units completed and I will have tons to show.
