Cats and Quilts

Hello Everyone,

A few nights ago I was binding my Stepping Stones quilt and it served as my cat magnet for the evening.  All of you quilters who own cats know what I mean right??

See what I mean... My little Watson was very contented while I sat and bound my quilt.  Plus he doesn't like to move while I am doing my work.

This is what it looked like before the arrival of Watson.

Then we have my other little mischief maker... Mr. Pavi.  I had purchased this wonderful little cart, to bring to my classroom studio, from Ikea.  Of course it had to become cat approved.

He really liked the top level so much he just laid down.  The rest of the day he did try the other levels and really liked all.  He also enjoyed being rolled around... silly cat!

This was the scene last night while I did some computer work.  I guess you can tell I have some contented kitties and I am one big kitty lover

Bound and Done

Hello Everyone,

I know I showed you my Summer Solstice in my blog post here, but I hadn't quite finished it... now it is done!  I have sewed the binding down, put a sleeve on it and a label and sent it off to be displayed here where I will be teaching this class.

I used the same fabric for the binding as I did the inner border.  I really like this effect!  Actually I am really smitten with this entire quilt.  Done with Kaffe Fassett fabrics and 3 batiks.

I must tell you that paper piecing is the ONLY way to go with a Lone Star, no doubt in my mind.  No worrying about bias edges and everything is extra precise.

The following photos you have already seen but felt you might want to see them again.

Close up of the quilting.

The quilting turned out just fabulous!! I love this quilt!!

If you would like to take this class from me in Massachusetts in April, just click here for the details.

Progress on the Glacier Star

Hello Everyone,

On Saturday we also had the second Glacier Star Class.  I wanted to share some of the progress.

This is Lisa's... the photo was taken after she went home and finished her homework.  So I guess I am working backwards.  She is doing a beautiful job!

Some circling geese added and a few units from her Queen Extension are sitting there too!

Lillian's geese and NY beauties are complete.  Looking good!

Gloria has one circling geese done.  It looks great.

Anne is a happy quilter.  If you would like to see more photos from this class and the progression of the students quilts, just click here.

Sit and Sew Saturday Inspiration

Hello Everyone,

Yesterday, we had Sit and Sew Saturday at the studio.  Love these days as there is such inspiration.

Fran brought in this lovely scrappy Courthouse Steps to work on... I can't tell you that this photo does not do this justice.  She had this stored away for YEARS and decided to break it out and finish it, it is going to be a beauty and will be in the Flights and Fantasies Quilt Show in September!! Find out more about the show by clicking here.

Anne brought in these little pouches that she made and was selling... ADORABLE!!

Justine was working on this Sweet 16 Signature quilt for her granddaughter.

Sally brought in these stacks of triangles to work on a One Block Wonder.

Show and tell from Kathy...  gorgeous!

Nancy working on her Cactus Flower table runner.  Find the pattern here.

WOW... Look at Sally's One Block Wonder... A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.!!  There is Sally doing her best Wilson pose.

Kathy is a happy quilter.

There is always time for socialization!

A Private Class

Hello Everyone,

Have you ever taken a private quilting class?  If so, they are great.  Yesterday, I had the pleasure of teaching a private class in my studio.  Yes, I do teach private classes!!

This class was taught teaching the paper piecing technique for the quilt Stepping Stones.  The pattern can be found here.

Here is a close up of my quilt and the quilting.

The afternoon started with Cherie and I sorting her 2.5 inch strips of batiks.  We paired them up together in pleasing combinations of light and dark as well as contrasting.

Here is what the table looked like as we were pairing.

Here are all the pairs neatly lined up.  I just love these batiks, bright and bold.  She had purchased these strips from my shop.  They are Anthology Story Strips sold in boxes of 20 strips... no repeats!  You can find them here.

Oooops... what is this?  Cherie brought in a little show and tell!  She made a quilt that I had designed and published, called Raspberry Roll.  She made a few more rows to enlarge the quilt.  You can see my original here.  Great job, Cherie!!

Here are the blocks that Cherie completed yesterday! Aren't they wonderful??  She did a great job in class too!

Another close up of my quilt with all Kaffe Fassett fabrics.

Here is the completely quilted quilt! The binding has been applied to the front and I just have to turn it to the back and hand sew it down.  Love this quilt!

Oh, and if you are a Kaffe Fassett fan, I am having a 2 day sale February 23-24.... ALL Kaffe Fassett Collective yardage has been marked down to $8.25 per yard for 2 days only!!!
