Have You Ever Seen A Glacier...?

Hello Everyone,

Star, that is??

As you know about 2 weeks ago, I was on a quilting retreat in Montana at Judy Niemeyer's retreat center.  You all have seen my Summer Solstice or as I named it "I Am Not Afraid Of Color".  See it by clicking here and here.

But I also got started on another project, Judy's pattern Glacier Star.

I chose to use eggplant purples, and greens, with a splash of navy blue. They are all batiks. 

It is now on my design wall.  I have a little way to go yet, but I am totally enjoying the process. The color looks slightly different on my design wall...

than it did on Judy's.  I think the lighting is definitely playing a part here.  Plus the fact the color of the design wall is different too.  Either way, I love it. 

I thought I might share with you some of the other Glacier Star quilts that were being worked on at the retreat.

Delia was working on this lovely blue version.

May's version had such great color impact and she actually ended up completing the top before we left. Gorgeous!

Joann's version was a gorgeous rendition as well.  Joann had come all the way from Queensland, Australia and was right next to me at the retreat!  She was just wonderful!!

Isn't it amazing how just a change in fabric and color palette can change the whole look of a quilt pattern?

 Here is a photo of all of us at the retreat.  Judy is right in front.  Lovely grounds, beautiful weather and a great group of ladies!! I will have more from the retreat in another post.

Have You Ever Seen A Glacier...?

Four Blocks Complete

Hello Everyone,

While I have been awaiting a package to complete a project that I am working on, I was able to finish four blocks that had some impending deadlines.  

First up...

Bonnie's red and white block for our Two's Company Bee.  This was a great traditional block to work on, thanks Bonnie!

My blue block for our Mod Conn Quilt Guild.  This one I winged along in the process.  Blue is a tough one for me, I don't really have too much in my stash.  But I like how the block turned out.

This block is for Victoria's Operation Uniform.  She sent out actual pieces of uniforms from the armed forces and we were to put them in blocks.  My thought was American Flag.  Note the red, white, and blue stripes. You can read more about her project here.

Last but not least, my Blogger's BOM.  Yes, I am participating too!  I decided to do it in fabrics that I had already chosen for another project already in the works.  So it will have a sister quilt in about a year from now.

Four Blocks Complete

Mod Conn Quilt Guild Show and Tell

Hello Everyone,

Today was a fun day for me!  We had our Modern Connecticut Quilt Guild meeting.  Some newcomers today and lots of wonderful inspiration.  

Our group quilt tops are coming along.  Some you will remember from previous posts.

These are our green pieced blocks from our second meeting with the purple setting blocks.  We need just a few more purple.

Our orange pieced blocks from our third meeting with the teal setting blocks.  A few more teal blocks needed.

Our newest pieced blocks are blue!

A late comer today.

Another late comer.  We have decided to set the blocks with an apple green.  So you will see these in a couple of months paired with apple green.  

All the above will be piece together in to separate quilts and be given to charity.

 Now onto the show and tell.

Sue's own quilt! She kept this one to herself.  Often times we as quilters give many away.

Michele made this oil cloth bag.

And this twist quilt.  Just beautiful!

Michele also made this Zig Zag quilt.  Love the purples.

Next up Heide completed this very pretty quilt.  Heide is hiding behind it!

Heide also did her own rendition of a quilt from the book on the table.  She once again is hiding.

This book has given her tons of inspiration.  There is Heide and see the painting in the book, didn't she do a great job replicating it in a quilt?

Lidia was a newbie to the group and she brought a Mola along to share. 

Cheree is creating this wonky star quilt for her daughter.

This quilt was really pretty similar to our green and purple blocks.

Sue created this coin type quilt with some cool fish fabric!

Look at her reindeer.  She had to enlarge them 500% from the original pattern.

Julia showed off her Kaffe Targets skirt, super cute.  But you can also see her cute selvage skirt she is wearing.

Julia's mom Tina (Seaside Stitches) brought along the following little pouch.  It was made for her from a swap partner.

There is Tina!! Her swap partner designed and made this fabulous quilt.

This is the back.  Just wonderful!

She also had this little pouch, that she made, and it held raffle tickets for her quilt guild's show in two weeks.  Click here for information on the show.

This little piece will be up for auction at the show.

Elisa brought along with her this wonderful Aunt Grace Quilt.

And this Asian panel.  

Tina just sent me this photo of one of the quilts that I showed.  This is my "I Am Not Afraid of Color Quilt".  It is Judy Niemeyer's pattern Summer Solstice, and it is one of the patterns up for the giveaway (see below).
