Sew In With NYC Metro Mod

Hello Everyone,

After all the excitement of the Quilter's Take Manhattan event in NYC, we did manage to get some sewing in with friends.

Everyone is a member of the NYC Metro Mod quilt guild and all extremely talented. I wanted to share some of the wonderful things that everyone was working on that day.

First up, this was Earamicha's Alzheimer's Quilt. I just love it, it really says a lot don't you think? Well done.

This one is by Victoria... Hmmm... I wonder if she had me in mind? They are totally my colors!

A quilt part of the Jay McCarroll challenge. This has his new line of fabric Habitat.

A string quilt... Love it!

David looking pensive, but in front of a very beautiful round robin quilt.

Teri Lucas gave a wonderful machine quilting demo. Hope to see you soon Teri!

Earamicha in front of her wonderfully graphic quilt.

Kim's quilt in progress. I love the color mix.

More works in progress.

Here is my block. Yes, the block was already made. What I did manage to make that day was the very teeny tiny flying geese you see on the side of this block. One word for geese this small... Insane!

Nicole with her beautiful Jay McCarroll challenge. Pomegranate was definitely the right choice, Nicole.

What a fun day and lots of inspiring projects!

One last thing... don't forget that all Australian fabrics are marked to $7.95 per yard through Friday in my shop! Find yours by clicking here.

Until Next Time....

More Fun In Manhattan, Part 2

Hello Everyone,

As promised, there was a second event day of the Alliance for American Quilts. I wanted to bring a few more photos depicting some of the wonderful happening that day.

Marianne Fons was one of the keynote speakers and she gave an incredible lecture. It was a pleasure meeting her especially since I have been watching her show since I started quilting some 18 years ago.

Her daughter, Mary, was also one of the speakers and presented quite a comedic lecture. For those of you who would like to get to know her more, she has an internet show called Quilty.

Then many of the gals from the Alliance were able to model some very beautiful creations of Jay McCarroll's. Don't they all look gorgeous?

Mark Lipinski interviewed Jay for his Quilter's SOS and his touchstone piece was modeled by Luke Haynes another Alliance Board Member.

There were also all kinds of goodies that were being bid on in the silent auction. This little box of buttons, beads, and embellishments was one that I got to go home with, very excited!!

Then it was off to The City Quilter for cocktails and more fun. These little quilts were made by Alliance board members and were also being bid on in a silent auction. The one in the upper right corner is Victoria's. Very cute!! I really love this one!

Here you can see Victoria with the piece that she won. Luke's self portrait. Doe you see the resemblance?

Here is the piece that I won from the beautiful France Holliday Alford. I just love it all embellished and totally my color scheme. Hmmm... wait my dress matches! Thanks Frances!

I couldn't leave you without a picture of me and my friend, Marie Bostwick. We just had waaaaayyyy too much fun! Love ya, Marie!

Oh, doesn't she look great in chiffon?

Of course, I couldn't leave you without this photo. For all you Dear Jane lovers, this was hanging in The City Quilter's gallery. Just love the brights!

It was a fun filled two days, but wait I stayed through until Sunday! Come back tomorrow to see what I did!

Until Next Time...

Quilters Take Manhattan Part 1

Hello Everyone,

As you know, I spent the weekend in NYC at the Quilters Take Manhattan event. All I can say is that I had a blast. I also promised to share this with you.

So let's get to it...

I stayed with my friend Victoria and as convenient as it would be the first event was at her home. We didn't have to go far. The first night The Alliance for American Quilts interviewed Victoria for the Quilter's SOS.

She had to pick a quilt, called her touchstone quilt, a quilt of significance. It was her Kitchen Sink Quilt. Then they did her "mug shot" in front of it as her interview will be entered into the Library of Congress.

You will be able to find the transcript of her interview by clicking here. Let me tell you that the interview was nothing less than fantastic!

A great picture of several of the Modern Connecticut Quilters with Victoria and friends.

Victoria and Jay McCarroll! For those of you who aren't familiar with him, he is the first winner of Project Runway and is a designer of clothing and quilting fabric with Free Spirit. You can find some of his fabric in my shop by clicking here.

Loved seeing my NYC Metro Mod Quilt Guild buddies!!

And guess who else was there the entire weekend.... Yes, Mark Lipinski! He can make any event just way too fun. Thanks Mark for brightening my weekend.

Here I am with our lovely panel of Modern Quilters, John Adams, Jennifer Paganelli, Kim H., Melanie Testa, and Nancy Soriano. All fabulous and all very diverse.

And how about this... Amy Milne, Executive Director of the Alliance and Mark Dunn, Owner of Moda Fabrics handing out door prizes! Just fabulous people and I was so happy to have met them!

More to come next post, so stayed tuned for some fun!

PS. There is a BIG sale going on in my shop right now... All Australian fabrics are marked down to $7.95 per yard through 8/12/11. Just click here to get started.

Until Next Time...

Show and Tell

Hello Everyone,

I wanted to share with you all the quilty goodness that my fellow Mod Conn Quilters shared at our meeting on Sunday. You saw the orange blocks we all contributed in yesterday's post, now it is time for the quilts. Let me warn you... lots of talent!

First up... Heather's quilt. Gorgeous and the result of a Bee. And all done in Kona Cotton Solids.

The back.

Susan Q's quilt all created from a panel. She was able to set in blocks that she liked!

Heather's pinwheel quilt. She is still quilting this one.

The back.

Another one of Heather's. This one she explained was inspired from a quilt in one of Kaffe Fassett's books.

Susan G. designed this quilt. It is entirely appliqued and it is for herself!! Yay!!

She also made this really cute little bag.

Elisa was up next. A beautiful Asian inspired quilt. She loves cranes.

A little mini art quilt from Elisa. The detail was phenomenal.

Can you see the tulle and all the beads?

A wonderful version of a Terri Atkinson design called Fire Escape, using all Kaffe Fassett fabrics.

This quilt was not only two color, but it was just two fabrics!

Last but not least, Jessica had this quilt in the car. It is sandwiched and she is in the process of quilting. There is some awesome quilting in this one.

You are wondering about me? I did show two quilts, but I can't show them to you yet. You will get to see them in a little while.

Thanks for stopping by today and I hope you enjoyed the show.

Until Next Time...

Oranges and Eggplant

Hello Everyone,

Yesterday our Modern Connecticut Quilt Guild met at my house! What a treat for me to have this talented group of ladies in my own home.

I promised to show you everyone's orange blocks. I must say that I love each and everyone of them. They are all unique and simply gorgeous. A few members couldn't make it today so their blocks are still to come.

Here is a group shot of all the blocks together. They are just all so juicy and work well together, don't they?

This one is Jessica's block. She used a pattern from Elizabeth's Hartman's book. Love it!

Susan G. made this block. I really like the linear design and the repeat of the fabrics.

This one is from newcomer Elisa. She did this on short notice and blogged about it here. What a wonderful block.

This one was done by Maddie, Susan's daughter. Great use of the color and the fabric!

Heather made this gorgeous orange "log cabin" version. Love all the fabrics that she chose.

This was mine and I previously blogged about it here.

Susan Q. created this block and used some of her hand dyed fabric that I showed in my last post about our guild. You can see her fabric here.

Last but not least, we all brought in our purple/plum setting squares for our green pieced blocks from our last meeting. Here is a sneak peek at what it might begin to look like.

Doesn't it remind you of eggplant, just a little? We have a few blocks we are waiting on before they are all pieced together.

PS. Don't forget to enter my fabric giveaway by clicking here. Today is the last day!

Until Next Time...
