Bittersweet

Hello Everyone,

Saturday was a bittersweet day for me.  My youngest child, my son, left home for college in AZ.  I am sooo proud of him.  He graduated High School early in January and is starting college this month!

He and his friend spent several days packing a rental truck to take his belongings and some of ours on the trek.

My husband and son are spending several days crossing the country and having a great time doing so, a true adventure.

I love my son so much and although I am grateful that he is doing so well and ready to begin a new chapter in his life, I truly will miss him coming through that door everyday.

And just like that he is gone....

I have had several status updates and they are having a great time on the way out.  At least I know that when he gets there he will be with family.

Not sure I am ready for the empty nest syndrome.  Although my daughter comes home for spring break on Friday, so I don't think I am "officially" an empty nester yet.

Until Next Time...

A whole truck? Our philosophy is if it doesn't fit in the car it doesn't go. :o) My daughter has become THE most efficient packer ever. Best wishes to you son.

Congratulations Mom!!! I remember well when my son left for college and I thought I might never sleep a peaceful night again worried that he would be safe. It didn't take me long to settle in and enjoy seeing him grow into a wonderful man :*) You've done your job in the planting and the cultivating, and now you can watch him bloom!

Hopefully he's headed to TUCSON and UofA (sorry Laura). He'll be fine Mom, promise! Ya done good. 8^)

You both will be fine! Yes, it is hard at first, but to paraphrase Teresa, you've done the planting - it is his time to grow. Be well!

It's hard to see them go, but I'm glad he is doing so well academically and ready to be on this new adventure!

wow he is bringing a lot - must not be moving into a dorm! family in AZ that is nice. having gone through the empty nest syndrome many years ago I can say it hurts at first and then it is much much better - and then feels normal after awhile

Glad to know the trip is going OK for them. Weather good?

Just remember he's not the only one starting a new adventure. Empty nest is so hard, but it's also a great time to rediscover you.

Bittersweet is exactly the right word. We raise them right, they leave. You've done a great job.

I know how this goes...never easy, but we must let them leave the nest. Take care...thank goodness for cell phones and the internet!

A great big virtual hug Jackie! We raise them to become independent and then what happens? They become independent! Believe me it gets less painful one day at a time. Hang in there.

How exciting. This is definitely a new chapter in each of your lives.
When my oldest left home 25 years ago, we didn't have all the means of communicating that are standard, today. Good luck, you'll be fine.

My youngest son went to Arizona State, and I knew life would change. Turned out that the cooking was the first adjustment. We had the same macaroni casserole for a whole week. We never realized how much he ate!
