What Would You Do?

Hello Everyone,

As you know, I just returned from vacationing in Arizona. While there, we went to the swap meet. We do this every time we go visit my parents. There are tons of vendors and interesting things to see and buy.

This year there was a particular vendor that caught my eye. He had some imports from India. I saw this...

Beautiful color and embellishment. My first thought is how cool would this be to work it into a quilt?

Beautiful embroidery and sequins on a purple background.

Just fabulous color and embellishment and it all belongs to this...

I just had to have it! Isn't it beautiful and it was a bargain... $15!!!
Then that wasn't all, I saw this in HOT pink. We all know how much I love HOT pink.

More beautiful embellishment!

Embroidery and sequins... simply heaven.

Even with gold thread too. Just wonderful and this one all belongs to this...

Double the elephants, double the size, but not quite double the price! This was only $25! I thought it was a bargain too. Now I have these two beautiful panels...

So what is your first instinct? What would you do? If you would make a quilt, how large would you make it? I definitely won't cut them apart. I have so many ideas floating in my head. But I would love to hear yours too.

Oh and don't forget to enter my giveaway by clicking here. Good luck!

Until Next Time...

Wow! I can see why you love these. I'd think instead of cutting them I'd leave them whole and do borders, perhaps adding some of your lovely silks.

Jackie, I would make a simple wall hanging or use them as a table topper or beautiful pillow covers. I would not cut them up.

The assortment of colors in both panels sure gives you unlimited options. I just love the pink one, with the two elephants, twice the luck! I would add enough fabric to make these into a nice size wall hangings. I would try to find fabric the same color as the elephants for the containment border. What about some colorful diamond blocks surrounding the containment border, then a plain outer border? These are treasures, what a find and what a deal! I'll be watching to see what you do with these lovely panels.

Those are just gorgeous!! I have no suggestions, but certainly look forward to hearing others' input and seeing what you finally come up with! And I agree-- your bright silks would be great with the panels.

Jackie,
I would make one a wall hanging the other a bed throw, don't cut them up, I would add a border with one dark (reads as a solid) and maybe mix in a few Kaffe Fasset fabrics. They are both beautiful.

I'd either hang them or leave them as a topper for furniture. Don't you just love the colours and bling!

Depending on the width… I've always had this idea of making a vertical piece that could hang on down a long wall. As many of the houses these days have high ceilings - I thought that would be really something. Imagine the eye catching some of this up high with intricate piecing guiding the eye further down to more of it.

What a great find! I love the idea of putting them into a quilt as the focus...sort of medallion center. A small wall quilt so they could be displayed. I am really looking forward to seeing what you create with them. I know it will be awesome!

Jackie!
This takes me back home! I would hang it on the wall. May be mount it on a fabric covered canvas to give it a lift off the wall.

They scream "pillow" to me! I think they would make fantastic pillow covers.

Beautiful! I would NOT want scissors anywhere near them for one thing LOL. But I would want to try to do some applique of some of the FAB elements in the design.. so I would make a wall hanging for a room out of the smaller one.. and a quilt for the same room.. out of the bigger one making that the center pannel. Just choose some of the elements from in the quilt..and then repeat them in borders around the quilt.. or in blocks..oooh ahh.. I need to hit the flea market.. :)

Beautiful colors Jacqie! I'd just pin them up on the wall as they are, just lovely.

very nice pieces. If you want to make them into quilts why not do several borders around them using these pieces for the middle and let a quilt grow around them - kind of like a round robin adding borders that would add to but not distract from the middle which would be the focal point.

Jackie! Those are so cool! You know me and bright colors, just like you I can't resist! I would make a bed size quilt with the purple one with the elephant in the middle. With the pink one I would make a wall hanging but a huge one in a very long but not so wide rectangle so it covered most of a wall behind a couch... totally awesome...these wou;d be super with your silk too :)

I would make two quilts, cuddle on the sofa size with the panels being the center, and make blocks to go around them till the quilt is the way I wanted them.

What great finds! I can't wait to see what you do with them-

What fabulous finds! I'd be tempted to add a small stop border around each of them and then do a pieced border using maybe some of the silks you bought and turn them both into wall hangings. I'd want them on display!

Gorgeous fabrics. I'd leave them whole and make some fun borders...maybe not too big...and then possibly even frame the finished piece!

Those are stunning elephants! I think that you'd have to use either shantung silks or perhaps shot cottons to go with the sparkle and brightness of all that embroidery and sparkle. I'd say to make two separate quilts .. at least one of them as a log cabin style with the elephant panel as the center "square". Oversize .. sort of a bright more modern version of a Gee's Bend house quilt.

I would definatly use the purple one for a bed quilt, the center of a medallion and add plenty of borders in bright colors
my main color would be lime, I just love the combination of purple and lime

WAY too beautiful to cut! I would hang them on the eall or learn to wear a sari especially the pink one!

I would add borders to make lap quilts. Maybe even piece one of the borders - flying geese?

Oh gosh, is the Mesa swap meet Saturday AM? My daughter is having a baby in a few months and her husband is Indian, this would be a perfect accent in the baby's room on the wall of course!(Oh and I will be in the Mesa area in 2 weeks!)

Now I thought if they were small enough I'd put them on the back of a cape.

Evelene S said...

My second thought would be to incorporate it into a quilt for a bed so that you could see it everyday.

DocSly said...

The panels are beautiful and I would use as a centerpiece for a lap quilt. The snail trail block has always reminded me of an elephant trunk. I think I would make some of those to frame the center
