Monterrey Medallion

Hello Everyone,

As promised, another 1930s quilt! I don't know what it is about the 1930s reproductions, but I just love them. The plan is to get a new line of them in my shop in the New Year. So keep your eyes peeled.

This quilt that I am showing you, I made when I taught classes at the local quilt shop. It was pieced about 3 years ago. Unfortunately, my friend closed the shop in June, 2008. We really miss it! This quilt was a sample for the class Monterrey Medallions.

I chose to piece it with 1930s fabrics with a solid teal accent. We auditioned other various solids but for whatever reason the teal just worked best.

The variety of 1930s was what was in my stash then, but I would surmise that my stash of 1930s fabrics has grown exponentially.

This quilt has a center star medallion. Then it is surrounded by logs or strips.

Following that border it has more stars. Which I really love! But who doesn't like stars?

Then finally a beautiful pieced border. I love the finished top. However, once again, I need to quilt it on my long arm. That is another project set for next year.

Monterrey Medallions is a pattern booklet by Terry Atkinson. Her patterns are fun, easy to follow, well written with a fantastic result. I made this quilt twice. The second one, I made in fall colors in a King Size. Then it was entered into the Kutztown Folk Festival and won a ribbon!

If any of you have made this quilt, I would love to see your versions. Have a great weekend! Oh and please pop over to my friend Anina's Blog, she is having terrific giveaway. Also, I just uploaded some new customer quilts for inspiration, check them out here.

Until Next Time...

Beautiful! I have quite the stash of repro '30s from my mom. Waiting for the right project to come to light before I use them. :o) I have a '30s quilt top done, basted and partially hand quilted. I haven't worked on it in probably 8-10 years. I just remembered it!

I love that pieced border! Such wonderful color in this quilt. It is a pity that some quilt shops have to close. I have to travel over an hour to get to a decent quilt shop - there is one about 40 minutes from me but it not worth the drive.

I love the colors in this Jackie. Great design too!

Yesterday I dug out an unfinished quilt top from a friend's stepmother who had passed away some years ago. It is probably from the 1950's, made from shirting cotton. I would really like to finish it up.

Thanks for the inspiration, now I just need the TIME!

That quilt is amazing. I have a big collection of 30's fabrics. I just collect them. Maybe someday I'll make something beautiful, like your quilt, out of them.

Hey, another lovely 30s quilt! Yes, do quilt it! I´m sure it looks great finished.
What nice fabrics you used, I LOVE the blue one with the three-petal flower. ( I don´t know that, and I thought I know each 30s repro fabric :-) )
VERY good idea to have a new line in your shop!

Gorgeous quilt. The versions I see of Monterrey Medallions are usually not 1930s. This one is great.

I agree-- Terry Atkinson's patterns are exactly what you wrote--fun, easy to follow, and well written.

It's just lovely! I have a medallion of my own that I have stalled out on because I haven't figured out what I want my next border to be. This gives me some ideas...

Really stunning! The colors pop, yet still retain there wonderful vintage look and the piecing is fabulous! I am a sucker for those 1930 repro's too... they just evoke such a wonderful feeling, who can resist?!

Jackie - it is amazing. I love it. And I love the colors. The little touch of orange/gold/yellow makes the blocks pop. Very well done.

Oh Jackie! I'm not a big fan of reproductions, although a I did make one quilt using them, but I absolutely LOVE your quilt top. I think I love it so much because in addition to the color scheme, it's a more modern quilt design. It's really lovely and I sure can't wait to see it quilted.
