Quilt Tops Finished at Our Annual Quilt Retreat

Hello Everyone,

This past Sunday I arrived home from my annual quilting retreat with my friends and I wanted to share with you some of what I and my friends accomplished while there. This will be a 2 part post. So here come the pictures...

First we had a challenge to do for this year. We all had to use the mottled batik in the border of this SECOND quilt and had to incorporate it with up to 6 more fabrics. The project could be no bigger than 45 X 45 and no smaller than 25 X 25. Here are our interpretations...

Erica pieced this beauty.

Maria paper pieced this beauty.

I paper pieced this beauty.

Joan piece and appliqued this beauty.

Julie pieced this beauty.

Diane free form pieced this beauty.

Isn't it just amazing how they all came out so different from just using one focus fabric?? Next year's challenge is simple. We are to make a black and white project, but may only add one color. If any of you in cyber land would like to join in I would love to see what you make and you have a whole year to do it!! Just e-mail me your pictures and indicate in your comment that you will be participating.

Now onto the projects that I finished while at our retreat. My goal was to bring projects that I had already started. I had to complete the tops and the backings so that they would be ready to go onto my long arm when I arrived home.  So here is what I accomplished...

My Mary Englebreit top and backing.

Some of you will remember my mystery quilt. It is now done and the backing is as well!! Yay!

This one is my Ramblin Rose BOM that I taught at Gone Quilting when it was still open. It is for our bed and my hubby really likes this one. He is excited to get a new quilt on our bed.

This one is from the Laurie Shifrin class Mango Tango that I took not too long ago. Gee looks like next years challenge is already complete... LOL... not!

This is an oldie but a goodie. I had started this pineapple quilt about 7 -8 years ago. I had all the pineapple blocks done and sewn together, but no borders. So I brought it with me and everyone helped me to plan the border and get it done with the backing complete!!

So I finished all the projects that I set out to complete and started a new one. This one is a strata quilt and I absolutely love it!! I have exactly half of the quilt complete.  These are truly my colors. I just love the bright fuchsia, yellow, and purple. This is from a pattern called Fabulous by 4th and 6th Designs. They also have a book out called Strata Various. Great book!

Let's see how long to finish this one.

One last note, you can see some more beautiful eye candy here. I just posted some new customer quilts and they can be seen on my website in the gallery or on any page under Recent Additions. Also, my November Newsletter is online and there are some interesting things you may be interested in. So what are you waiting for.... go check it out here.

Until next time, Happy Quilting!

Oh Jackie. This is a FAB post. I am awed with all the gorgeous batik quilts. What creativity going on there. I can't pick a favorite.
And all the new ones you got completed.. that is awesome! I love the colors in the mystery quilt and the pineapple.. the border on that one turned out so pretty!
Ok. I have been wanting to do a black and white quilt for a long time.. and yesterday in Jane's Fabrics and Quilts post there was a picture of one from a show with two little specks of red. I thought is was very interesting and eye-catching. So I think I'm going to join in on this one. I may even make two, I have two sons who would both love B&W quilts.

I love seeing how each person can start with the same fabric and come out with such different end results. Thanks for sharing all the gorgeous quilts. I have started collecting black and white fabrics with the intent to one day make a quilt. Hmmm...is this challenge a year long one?

Wow, Jackie, talk about jamming in so much in a single post! It was great to see pictures of some of my favorite quilters and their works. The mystery quilt is so fun looking. One day I can see making something like that myself w/ my favorite 12 inch pieced blocks and a stack of Thangles and a stack of my favorite fabrics. The border on the pineapple quilt is wonderful. Good team approach too. The strata quilt is AMAZING looking. I love the pinks and purples. Our guild's last speaker might have done that herself w/ batting and backing at the same time (quilting as you go, ya know). I will be filing that info. Now I had better get quilting to keep up w/ you. (Sigh. If only Miss Baby Violet would let me.............)

Jackie,
wuahh...amazing all those quilts. I love all of them, confused to pick which is my fave :)
Ok, I'll take your challenge for next year white-black project.
Btw, thanks for your advice about the batting to my first project. You know Jackie, I was busy browsing last weekend for online order and also ask one of my good old friend from 10 years ago(we seldom to keep in touch). Guess...it was really my good luck, she want to give me by mail a 6 metres of dacron quilt batting as a gift!! Wow, Now I'm really glad...just wait to see mine. Have a nice day!

Absolutely stunning quilts! I dream of learning how to quilt every time I see such lovely work. Maybe one of these days I will buckle down and learn this wonderful craft. For now, I will just stare and drool at all of the loveliness.
