Yes, I CAN Do Applique... Well Sort Of...

Hello Everyone,

Yes, I can do appliqué, but really under special circumstances.  There is a story behind this, so stick with me...

Oh about a year or so ago, one of my closest friends had asked me to make a block for her.  She actually asked each of her friends to make a block.  It was of a particular pattern and she wanted it to reflect our individual personalities.

This block is from a Quilt Soup Pattern, All Dolled Up. It is of a lady in a hat.  Because I don't usually do appliqué, I had put it off and put it off.  Justine, my friend, kept asking me where the block was... I kept saying that I would do it.  You know how that goes procrastination?

Anyway, now my friend is moving and I am quite sad.  Yesterday was the day!  I actually started to make the block and I must say I like it.  Justine likes to use Steam A Seam and a buttonhole stitch, so that is how I am doing this for her.

But, I first fused all the pieces to the right side of the fabrics... ACK!!! So I had to do all the tracing and cutting a second time... See why I don't do appliqué usually?

Enough talking... here is where I am at...

Of course I am using Kaffe Fassett fabrics, because Justine knows this is totally me!  I want her to remember that too!  See the little flower button?  That will get sewn on after I do the stitching.

Plus, I will add a little more bling as well.

Here is the entire block, fused and ready to stitch.  I even added decorative ribbon for a necklace.  Let's hope I don't mess up the stitching.

I will miss you, Justine, and I hope this block acts as a small remembrance of our quilty friendship.

Until Next Time...

Oooooo - you made such good use of the motifs in that Kaffe fabric! Love the way the flower crowns at the top and another decorates on the side. And who wouldn't love a 20's hat - such style & flair!!! Justine will love it :*)

It's a fantastic looking block even without the stitching. Love the ribbon necklace and the flower button detail Jackie! I ordered the orange Kona fabrics from you, they're
beautiful, thank you!

Lovely....Im just learning too and had several episodes of forgetting the backing or putting the backing on the wrong side. But I have to say when all is said and done, the results are very pleasing.

If that is "your" applique, then I say you need to do tons more! That is one beautiful block.

I don't usually do applique either. You have done a nice job so far. I'm assuming that you going to stitch it by machine.
