Handwork

Hello Everyone,

In the summer time we tend to be on the road more than in the winter. This means, I need to bring something to keep my hands busy. So I decided to get back to my GFG Hexies!!But I can only do handwork when we are on the highway, not on windy roads my stomach just can't take it.

It feels good to be doing these again and I just love the results.

Here are 27 of them that were done previously which you can read about in this post.

I keep all my supplies in this little box that I got in the fishing department at Wal-Mart. It is convenient that the hexies fit just right.

Initially I think that I calculated that I needed 96 flowers for the bed that I would like this to cover. With only 27 made and one in progress, I have a little way to go yet.

They will all be bordered with Kona Cotton White Hexagons. You just have to love 1930s reproduction fabric with the white, it is just reminiscent of a different era which I adore.

Before you go, don't forget to enter the giveaway for the Wild Garden Fat Quarter Bundle. Just click here.

Until Next Time...

I love your 30's hexes, what a shame I can't sew in the car at all, can't have my head down and have to keep an eye on the road too.

I think GFG looks best in those fabrics. I love them in modern fabrics, too. OK, I love them in any fabric! Except batiks. They are too densely woven for me to hand stitch.

These blocks are gorgeous! I am jealous...can't do anything riding in a car but driving or sleeping...hopefully not at the same time!

I just love seeing all those hexie flowers on your blog, thanks for the update, you'll have them all done before you know it. The look perfect and perky and cheerful. Great tip about the storage box, very clever, I need to check that out.

I'm like you in the car, guess that's something we never outgrow.

Beautiful! I envy your being able to do anything while riding in a car - I have to keep an eye on the horizon so I don't get carsick :( That is going to be a beautiful quilt.

What a pretty quilt this is going to be - very sweet and old fashioned. Can't WAIT to see how you quilt it!

Beautiful! I just joined the hexie craze myself and am also using 30s reproduction prints for my grandmother's garden quilt. I love your little organizer. I'll have to find one of those!

Lucky you! Wish I could hand sew en route.

Beautiful blocks, Jackie! I'm with you, white Kona is THE perfect compliment for 30s repros.

Happy Stitching {and traveling!}

Pretty hexes! Please keep posting progress.

I'm working with my mom, who has dementia, on a GFG. She sometimes cant remember yesterday but she remembers how to sew! I showed her how to make hexes & she's made a ton of them. I can hardly keep up. Sewing saves the day again! I'm using 1930's prints with orange centers. I hope to post a pic sometime soon when I can get back to blogging.

I hope you are having some nice vacation times.
GFG was the very first quilt I ever made and I used granny fabrics too.

Oh, I do love the hexies done with the 1930's prints. I may have to try that. Last week I went on what was to be a short trip. I ended up staying for 5 days with no project to work on. Never again. Wrote about it on my blog. http://www.quiltedchocolate.com/2011/07/this-weeks-lesson.html

You have your hexies organized so nicely! Unfortunatley, I think I chose an inconvenient size which wouldn't fit in a nice tackle...er sewing box like that!! But, I may take a hexie and see anyway! By the way, as long as you are working on your hexies--you should go over to http://journeyofaquilter.blogspot.com/ and see her "One Flower Wednesday" where people (myself included) post their hexie flower's each Wednesday. It's fun!
