Bordered Diamonds Top is Complete

Hello Everyone,

I am sure you probably remember when I started making my bordered diamonds quilt top. If not, you can read a little bit about it here on this post. I started it because of the Facebook group that I belong to for Kaffe Fassett's newest book. The book is here and the Facebook group here.

Anyway, this is the quilt that I really wanted to make. It is smaller than what is in the book, but that is okay with me. I used my AccuQuilt Studio to cut the diamonds. So no fussy cutting with templates. It was a breeze!!

Then I had to add borders to each diamond. The diamonds consist mostly of a focal floral from the Kaffe Fassett collective and the borders are more textured or geometrics also from the collective. They are all from my stash!

Here is the finished quilt. I really am happy with how it turned out. It is a lap size a good one for our house.

I thought you might like to see the back of this quilt. I pressed all the seams open on this one. It was my opinion that it would lay a little bit flatter than if the seams were pressed to one side. I think it worked well.

It was a sunny day so I couldn't resist taking a few more photos. I decided on no border (as in the book) although I did consider it. The decision for no borders, I think, is the right one. It looks nice as is, what do you think?

Now I just need to decide on the backing. Most likely another Kaffe, but possibly a textural fabric rather than floral. Does anyone have any strong thoughts on this one?

The last photo, I just couldn't resist! Hopefully next time you see this it will be quilted.

An update on my nephew's quilt, it is quilted the label is on, and I am in the process of binding now. It needs to be done for his birthday next Sunday. Almost there...

Until Next Time...

This is absolutely stunning Jackie, and I love it with no border. What will you bind it with? I think any Kaffe would look great on the back! Great photo's xo

Stunning! I agree that no border is best. Kaffe has so many beautiful large motif fabrics that you showcased so well in this quilt.

I just love how the Kaffe florals in the center really pop off this quilt. Snuggling under this during the cold winter months will definitely bring warmth and happiness.

This is so lovely Jackie! The fabrics shine like jewels.. You probably think I am saying nice things about everything you make but as it happens what you make is always stunning so that follows!

As for border or no border.. It is lovely as it is. Having said that, I can also see it with a border. Not a small one but a very wide one with one of the big Kaffe prints.. i can see one in my mind but don't know what it is called... big flowers in any case.. That would be stunning too, but either one is great.

Jackie, this is absolutely stunning! Love it! This pattern is tempting me, too.

I love it and I think you made a good decision to not add a border. It would not suit the pattern.
For the backing, I think I would take a yellow Kaffe fabric, to add even more warmth to the feeling of this quilt.

Lovely! I think a large motif Kaffe on the back would be awesome.

It doesn't need a border. Pressing seams open really makes a difference int the flatness of the top. It's another terrific finished top!!!!

Jackie I just love what you do with those Kaffee fabrics..they are always top notch!! I can`t wait to see your quilting design you pick to finish this beauty.
As for the boarders wise choice it doesn`t need it...my backings I always pic a surprise you would never know but it never matches with the front...split personalities..LOL

Stunning, love the fussy cutting. No border, great idea. If it was me, I would go for a plain back as the front is the star.

Gorgeous, love those Kaffe fabrics! It looks fine without a border and totally yes to Kaffe on the back. Any Kaffe will do, lol.

Your quilt if beautiful!

Wow, Jackie! It's gorgeous! I like it looks perfect without a border. And I agree about the backing. There are so many textural prints that would look nice.

That's gorgeous!! I just saw this quilt pattern on Kaffe's new book Simple Shapes, Spectacular Quilts that I just got, and it caught my eye, I think I'm going to make one too!

Its so beautiful Jackie! and so fun to look at. I agree with no borders. I've sometimes wanted to press seams open before but my LAQ won't allow it.

Very pretty!!! I think a nice pink colored one, either with small flowers or a small print. That way you can carry on the color to the back but won't become distracted by the back. Just my opinion!! :D

It's stunning!! Doesn't need a border at all! What colour will you bind with?

Gasp! No wonder you love it, it's a stunner and I love it with no borders. Any Kaffe would suit the back and I'm sure you have plenty to audition. It glows in the sun.

Just Beautiful Jackie!! I love Kaffe fabrics, one of these days I'll collect enough to make a whole quilt. I bought the book this pattern is in and just love it. Polka dots seem to be the rage for binding these days, but I'm not sure what to use on the back.

This is such a striking, beautiful quilt Jackie! I love it. No strong thoughts from me re: the binding. I'm sure whatever you choose will be lovely.

So pretty - and I don't think it needs another thing, unless a label on the back with Made for Teresa?

Jaw-dropping gorgeous quilt, Jackie!

You can't miss with Kaffe fabrics. Kaffe would look great for the backing and the binding. Glad you shared those photos - can't have too many shots of something so beautiful, in my opinion. :o)

I am making the same quilt (not as far along as you obviously). I like yours without borders, but I will probably add some to mine to make it the size I need. I'm having a tough time trying to find something I think would work well as a border though. I am using Bekah in Magenta for my back (since I have a large piece I got on sale), but it's floral. I am curious to see how you decide to quilt yours--I could use some great ideas! Your quilt is lovely!

It's wonderful Jackie!!! I agree, it's better without a border...

Wow! This quilt is fantastic! How do I not have any Kaffe fabrics in my stash? I know how - I am a scrap quilter who mostly has other people's cast-offs. NO ONE casts off Kaffee fabrics - they are just too darned wonderful!
