Hello Everyone,
As many of you have heard by now, the news in CT on Friday was totally devastating. I spent much of the day unable to focus and cried countless times. The local news here in CT has been covering the story 24/7, so when I awoke on Saturday I turned it on again. By midday, I had to turn it off. I am heartbroken over the loss of life.
I needed a distraction so I took to sewing...
I went into my studio and just began.
Then my little helper, Mr. Pavi, came for a visit and had to check my stitches to make sure that I was doing it correctly.
Hmmm... Looks good, maybe I will just sit on it for now.
Well, I know it is not yet a quilt, but looks darn close... so I think I will lay on it for awhile. Of course, he was further hindering my progress. But I totally enjoyed his company.
He then decided to move to the back of the machine, which was definitely easier for me as far as sewing was concerned.
Here he is totally bored to tears and utterly relaxed!! Ahhhh... the life of a cat.
Back to sewing and inspecting what I was doing... seems okay, so he thinks...
he will now lay down again.
All in all it was an enjoyable day sewing and it really did take my mind off the happenings of the day before. I enjoyed my kitty's company and he stayed with me all day. He must have known that I was feeling blue.

My kids have received so many more hugs than normal this weekend. I had to turn the news off and work all day on a rainbow quilt to try and keep my mind off the horrific loss.
You have a good kitty there who knows your needs. I am praying for those families, for sure. It is just so tragic. God bless!
Kitties have that 6th sense that knows when something isn't right. So glad he provided you much comfort.
it has been a horrible thing that happened - and it has happened in so many places over and over again, I think most of us quilters found we were lost in our quilting yesterday to try to forget a little.
The world grieves for those families. Our furry friends are loving. Is that a crocheted cover on the arm of your chair I spy?
The tears will not stop, and yes you don't think something can happen to a town like that but it does. Omaha had a school shooting 2 years ago in a HS and then in our mall, people died.
He is very cute but I admit he is only cute in your photos. That would drive me absolutely mad! Lol. I suppose that's why I don't have pets. :-)
I can only imagine. My DH grew up in Waterford and we met at UCONN, so our hearts have felt that connection even here in FL. What a great post to help us re-focus. How I miss my Rodger when I see pics like that. I think I'm getting closer to getting another kitty. I played in my studio yesterday too, it helped some....

We are closer to Newtown than you and it is just awful. Many families, esp. ones with small kids have turned off their Christmas lights outside. It is so awful and tragic.
so sad to hear this, I have little kids in 2nd and 5th grade and we live in a little tiny town too and also have a center circle to drive around like newtown (hubby is from CT and have driven thru newtown) it's terrible what happened, but I too stayed distracted this weekend, this is the first time since friday afternoon where I've been on the computer. I can't even imagine what this town is going thru....merry christmas!
We are feeling the deep sadness out here on the West Coast too. But I'm sure it's more acute when it happened in your state. One friend sent a quote that a mother tells her children when tragedy happens, "Look for the helpers." You, with your pillowcase project, are one of those.
My dog Spike has stayed very close the last several days. He usually avoids the noise in my sewing room but he stayed at my feet, snoring away most of the day too. They are a comfort in our sadness.
Nifty Quilts mentioned a quote about looking for the helpers. I saw on Facebook that it is from Fred Rogers and that his mother used to say that. No matter who it came from it is a very good quote to share with children.
Loved seeing the pictures with your kitty. I am sure he was there to keep you comforted. I too am curious about the crocheted cover on the arm of the chair.

My cat Tigger started putting his paw on my face Friday as I was on the computer checking out what was on the news. I was crying, and he had never done that before. Maybe in his own little way he was trying to comfort me.
The tragedy is unfathomable. There are no words, only a deep and aching sorrow for Newtown, and for us all. My mind has been filled with continual prayers - if only the prayers could bring them back!

There truly are no words for what happened. We turned the news off as it was just too hard to watch.
Mr. Pavi looks like the perfect sewing companion.
I just pulled fabric to make a pillowcase...not much but it makes me feel as if I am doing "something." Glad you cat knew to keep you company...prayers for the community.
Sewing keeps me going when life gets tough. I think we ought to turn our guns into sewing machines!!!
