Whew!! The College Quilt is Done and Just in Time!

Hello Everyone,

If you have been following this saga of me and my daughter's college quilt... then end has come!! I did it, I finished it and just in time!! Sunday night I put the last stitches in the binding and as you read this she is getting settled at college!!

Let's take a tour of the quilt...

If you remember, I used the school colors of cherry red and white.  But of course, I couldn't do ALL white.  I had to do it with a little black, it definitely adds more interest, don't you think?

I used some fabrics that I thought she would appreciate... cats and Converse.

More cats... can you tell we LOVE cats?

I quilted it with a simple swirl design that will stand the test of time... oh and the college abuse it may take.

I backed it with... I Love UK fabric.  She is into all things British and has been for sometime.  Loves BBC America, can't get enough.

Here is a close up, I thought this fabric was just perfect for her and she agreed!  I did sew a label to the back prior to the quilting, this way it is not only sewn on but quilted into it as well!!

Here it is... very loooooooooong!  I keep saying that the R will be the pillow tuck. But at least it will keep her warm and I would bet that she is the ONLY one on campus with a quilt like this!

This quilt has received her stamp of approval and I am wiping the sweat off my brow.

Until Next Time...

Perfect! Those college quilts need to be warm, durable, washable and provide a hug from home.

Love how you included hst's & I think that at one point or another I had all of those black on white cat prints! (I've been culling.)

Looks great. My son just started grad school and is still using the quilt I made for him when he started college. It is nice knowing I am still sorta tucking him in at night. :-)

How lovely to literally be wrapped up every night in Mom's hard work! And the best part of course is how it showcases all the things she loves.

She should have a lot of fun looking at all of the black and white prints with her friends too. I'm sure they will all be amazed in the variety of fabrics you used. It turned out great, and whew, just in time. Deadlines are great!

I love that backing fabric!!!

I saw your quilt in the latest QUILT magazine, and felt like I knew a celebrity. Mine (China Blue) was next to yours, and I felt like your celebrity stars were sprinkled on me. ;)

I love the black and white with red.

I really love the way using the red prints with the white and black prints creates the illusion of the letters being translucent and "floating" over the background. Great job -- having something as cozy as this will help chase those freshman blues during the long stretch between now and Thanksgiving.
