Quilts on the Bed

Hello Everyone,

While I was in Arizona, I had to place my quilts on my bed there and do a little photo shoot.  I am so glad that I did.  Have you ever made quilts and not ever placed them on the bed?  I have and I just had the need to do it and I am so glad that I did.

My quilts look just wonderful on the bed.

Let's take a look.

This is my Mariner's Compass quilt.  The bed is a Queen Size bed, but this is a King Size quilt.  When the pattern was actually published it was reduced in size to a Queen.  But anyway I love how it looks on the Queen.  I love the drop!

The pattern can be found here.

This is the Queen Size Glacier Star.  I am just loving this on the bed.  There is something to be said for having a medallion style quilt on a bed.  The design just is gorgeous!

The pattern can be found here.

If you don't have a full size bed quilt, a bed runner might just be the right thing.  It add just a little bit of color and design.  I really like this look and it is easy to change out too!!

This is the Willow Bed Runner and the pattern can be found here.

This quilt just has the WOW factor!! I love how it looks on the bed, but I think if I were going to use this design on the bed, I might have to make it in a little more subdued colors.  But this gives me a really good idea, doesn't it?

This is the Queen Size Feathered Star and the pattern can be found here.

So how about you??? Have you put your quilts on your bed to see what they look like???

The Last Class

Hello Everyone,

Saturday was the last class for the Spring Session of the Mariner's Compass Technique of the Month (TOM) and I would like to share with you a few photos.

Michelle travelled from NJ to take this class with me and this is her gorgeous version!

Noreen and Nancy working to construct the units together.

This is Noreen's version.  She chose to do the Queen Size and worked on those pieces at home.  I love that she did the borders in black and white fabrics.

Here is a look at what the studio looked like that day.

Shirley's version.  She is almost done... she was having fabric selection issues... LOL!  But I think she finally settled on a final choice so now it should go together beautifully.

Nancy got two wedges together, now for the other six.

Here they are with what they were able to piece for the last class.  Total awesomeness!!!

If you would like to take this class with me in my studio in the fall you can check out the dates and details and register by clicking here.

I Love Productive Days

Hello Everyone,

Yesterday was Finish It Up Friday at my classroom studio.  I love it when the ladies come to sew with me.  They are always so inspirational.

Let me show you some of what we were up to...

My friend Deb finished up Color Boxes done in Kaffe.  I took it to the studio for a photo shoot because it is now available in the shop not only as a pattern but a KIT!!  Just click here to see!

Karen brought in a TON of show and tell.  I always love to see what she has... so let's look...

This one I just adored!  Love the design and the fabrics she used.

This also was quite beautiful.  Look at how the blocks flow.

A Mondo bag in the making from all Kaffe Fassett Fabrics.

The ladies working and resting hard.  Take a look at my new curtains from IKEA.  I love them, I thought they were fun and funky.

Karen also had this beautiful peacock quilt.  Believe it or not, it is a panel and then she added actual photo on the right side of peacocks in flight.  This was simply gorgeous.

Leslie was laying out another hexagon quilt.  This one is for herself.  Every once in a while you have to keep a quilt or two.

Beautiful purple strips all lined up and ready to go!

I completed my Queen Size Mariner's Compass by adding the borders today!  I LOVE it!!  I am only sorry that I didn't finish it a long time ago.

Then I continued onto my next project, more on that later.

Nancy was finishing up her gorgeous grey and earth tone quilt.

Leslie... contemplating why her machine wasn't sewing... hmmm... the thread ran out!  This has happened to us all, hasn't it?

All in all it was a fun day with the ladies and productive as well.

Mariner's Compass

Hello Everyone,

Yesterday, I taught the 5th session of the Mariner's compass class at my studio.  It was a great day.  We even had a little show and tell too!

Michelle, one of my students, brought in several quilts to share.  This one was spectacular!

It is a quilt that she made from a book from the Quilt Mavens. Gorgeous right?

Here is Michelle's Mariner's Compass on the design wall.  It is coming along.  I love her black and white ropes.

Noreen has a wedge made!

Here is hers on the wall.

Mine is almost a QUEEN!  I just have one more queen border unit and then the rest of the black frames and then it is done.  This is just a fun class.   Next session is the last and we will have the quilts together at that point.

I LOVE Progress!

Hello Everyone,

One of the things that I ADORE the most about teaching is seeing progress!  I am a huge fan of seeing progress photos and taking them along the way.  But as we are getting closer to the completion of the classes, this is when I get beyond excited.

Let me share with you some of the photos from yesterday's Mariner's Compass TOM...

Nancy was auditioning some background fabrics.  We think the turquoise on the right is correct choice not the lavender... your thoughts?

Shirley has most of her inner ropes completed!  It is really starting to shape up.

Love the choice of the lime greens for the inner rope.  Don't you think so too?

Look I even have a couple units made for my Mariner's Compass Queen Extension.  Soon this will finally be complete too!

I just LOVE progress!  How about you?

Showing Them The Ropes....

Hello Everyone,

Wow, where does time go.... this week I have actually been home, but busy taking care of some home matters as well as teaching locally.  It is great to be home, but boy TONS of spring things to do.  Plus the weather has been pretty nice here and things are starting to finally feel like SPRING!!

So I am getting caught up on quilty things.  These are some images from my class that I taught on Sunday.  This is the rope section of the Mariner's Compass Class that is going on in NY.  All the ladies in the class have some fabulous variations and I can't wait to see ALL their quilts completed!

Here are a few of the variations on the ropes.  There are 19 students in this class so there are many more photos, you just need to click here to see them.

Love this purple version.

Here are three different ropes from three different ladies.

This a a very mellow yellow.

Great autumnal colors.

Even though this one isn't trimmed up, I am in LOVE... these are sooooo my colors.

Here is a little peek at what the ropes will look like in the wedge.

And another.

Didn't I tell you, it really makes you want to see more, doesn't it??  I love this Mariner's Compass!

I just added another to the class schedule for the fall.  You can register online by clicking here.
