Glacier Star Class In Arizona ~ Day 2

Hello Everyone,

Yesterday was a great day!  There was TONS of progress on the Glacier Star by everyone!!  I would like to share just a few pics with you.

Kelly brought in her two units and just has to join them together.  But she has them ALL done!!  Then  we were all ooooing and ahhhing over her vinyl bags that she made that she did a quick little demo on how to make them.

Then she even gave me one of my very own!!! Squeal... so excited!!!  Stay tuned and you will see a tutorial from compliments of Kelly soon.

These next two photos aren't of the Glacier Star, but relevant nonetheless.  Above MaryBeth brought in here completed My 2 Baby Sisters quilt top that she finished from the class I taught in August.  I sooooo love it!!  To be honest, I wasn't sure what it was going to be like, but I knew it would be great and it is... very cool.  You can find this pattern by clicking here.

MaryBeth and Kelly brought in their Summer Solstice quilts.  MaryBeth's is done in all Kaffe Fassett and Kelly's all batiks.  Isn't it amazing how two of the same patterns can look sooooo different.  Very cool!! You can find this pattern by clicking here.

Sabrina finished her block!  Loving the very bright colors.

One of Kelly's swatch pages.  I just love the 1930s fabrics!  This is going to be the first Glacier Star that I have seen done in 1930s and I can't wait!!

Sue completed her block and was delighted and I was too.  I love the color combo!  Great job, Sue!

MaryBeth is doing hers in all Asian fabrics.  The fabrics are so rich and elegant and it will go in her bedroom when complete.  I am excited about this one too!

Ginger and Louise both completed their Geese in the Pond.  Two totally different looks, but OH so beautiful!

You can see LOTS more photos by clicking here.

You can purchase the Glacier Star pattern by clicking here.

The next class is in February, so stay tuned for more... they have homework!!

Until Next Time....

Glacier Star Class in Arizona ~ Day 1

Hello Everyone,

Yesterday was a great day!  I began teaching the Glacier Star Technique of the Month (TOM), the first day in a series of six classes.  I am teaching this class at 35th Ave Sew and Vac in Arizona.  One thing I can tell you for sure is that I am so glad I am here... it is sub zero temperatures back home in CT!!

Anyway, I have a fabulous group of ladies in my class, most of whom have taken a class with me before.  I am happy to see them back!!

Here are a few images from the class..

Sue's selections for her geese.  Love the jewel tones.  We picked some of these out on Thursday our fabric selection day.

Kelly brought in some of her completed Judy Niemeyer quilts in for show and tell.  She brought in the above Sunflower Illusions as well as her Summer Solstice.

Here is a swatch card, completed with Asian fabrics.  Love the color palette and I am looking forward to seeing this completed.

Three Unit S are complete.

Two students, two quilts, two blocks.  Nice job!!

Pam has a completed block!

Two students, two quilts, two blocks.  Another wonderful job!!

Here is my quilt with the Queen borders.    I took many more photos at yesterday's class and you can view them by clicking here.

If you can't take the class, you can purchase the pattern by clicking here.

Stay tuned for Day 2 of the class tomorrow!!

Selecting Fabric

Hello Everyone,

Yesterday, I help a couple of students go through their fabric choices for the Glacier Star class I will be teaching on Friday.  They brought along some of their own and we played a little.

Part of choosing for this quilt is selecting colors, tones, values that you like but work together well.

During this process we play and add and eliminate fabric until we get that correct combination.  Here is some of what we came up with...

One grouping was these jewel tones with gray backgrounds.  She wanted a shot of brown in there as this is going in her room which has those colors.  The brown is going to be accents and the inner border to frame it up.  I think it is going to make the center star POP!

Jan started with this and is using a minimal amount of fabric.  We added another two colors to this palette and I think it will make it sing.

I am looking forward to these two working on their quilts.

Unfortunately I didn't take many other photos.  (insert sad face here)... but I will on Saturday and Sunday so stay tuned.

Oh, but I did take one more photo...

Jan brought in here Total Eclipse to show off!  Isn't it gorgeous??

Stay tuned for more...

Until Next Time...

Quilts on the Bed

Hello Everyone,

While I was in Arizona, I had to place my quilts on my bed there and do a little photo shoot.  I am so glad that I did.  Have you ever made quilts and not ever placed them on the bed?  I have and I just had the need to do it and I am so glad that I did.

My quilts look just wonderful on the bed.

Let's take a look.

This is my Mariner's Compass quilt.  The bed is a Queen Size bed, but this is a King Size quilt.  When the pattern was actually published it was reduced in size to a Queen.  But anyway I love how it looks on the Queen.  I love the drop!

The pattern can be found here.

This is the Queen Size Glacier Star.  I am just loving this on the bed.  There is something to be said for having a medallion style quilt on a bed.  The design just is gorgeous!

The pattern can be found here.

If you don't have a full size bed quilt, a bed runner might just be the right thing.  It add just a little bit of color and design.  I really like this look and it is easy to change out too!!

This is the Willow Bed Runner and the pattern can be found here.

This quilt just has the WOW factor!! I love how it looks on the bed, but I think if I were going to use this design on the bed, I might have to make it in a little more subdued colors.  But this gives me a really good idea, doesn't it?

This is the Queen Size Feathered Star and the pattern can be found here.

So how about you??? Have you put your quilts on your bed to see what they look like???

Until Next Time...

Yesterday was the second to the last class of the Glacier Star with my private group in CT.  They are all coming along very nicely, but as you will see one of my student's, Vivian, is clearly an over achiever!

Vivian's is looking beautiful!

Vivian also brought along some blocks for show and tell.  She is doing some thread play.  Aren't they gorgeous!

Linda completed a lone star unit!

Katie had enough sewing for one day!

Awesome Work

Hello Everyone,

Yesterday was my last session of teaching the Glacier Star at Country Treasures in Chester, Vermont.  These ladies are not only talented, funny, gracious and friendly, but some of my favorite people.  I have known about half of them for some years and the other half have become new friends.

Anyway, they did completely AWESOME work!! Each and everyone of their quilts where unique.  LOVE THEM ALL!

Here is the happy group showing off their quilts!!  Well done ladies!!

Sue was the over achiever and completed the Queen version.  She was truly the queen!!

Christy continued to plug away and got hers all complete.  LOVE!

Pat got off to a bumpy start, but quickly learned and did an extraordinary job!! LOVE THE PINK!!

Linda had the most unique color version that I have seen... a cross between Christmas and modern... just stunning!

And as you all know I LOVE KAFFE... Well, Sarah finished her Kaffe version and I totally wanted to walk off with this one.  Not only is it Kaffe, but there is a good amount of pink in it!!
