Hello Everyone,
When my friend Pat Wys asked me to join in on her blog hop, I was truly delighted! Pat of Silver Thimble Quilt Company has written her second book on neutrals and it is a beauty!
Have you ever tried to work with neutrals in your projects? If not, this book might just give you the inspiration to give it a try.
The cover of her book is just beautiful. Can't you just see curling up in that chair by the fire with that lovely quilt? This quilt is called Road Trip and is actually one of my favorites in the book. I will highlight it below.
Many of you know how much I LOVE black and white and yes! they can act as neutrals. Pat talks about the value of value in her book and points out what makes a neutral. Funny thing is that I look at her Day and Night quilt and I would love to make up this design in so many different ways. First with the black and white with little pops of color in various spots. One other way, is to the whole quilt in bright, fun, and funky colors. What do you think?
Here is Road Trip, the quilt on the cover. I love this block and think it looks fantastic in the neutrals that she used. This is another one, where the design can be utilized in so many different ways.
Arboretum is a phenomenal design. I always loved the Tree of Life quilt block and the way that Pat designed this quilt around this block is just wonderful. I love the variations in sizes and it does so well with the neutrals.
This book offers such a wide variety of patterns and designs. Pat has simply pieced quilts and then challenges you with more intricate designs, and then has hand pieced blocks and appliqué as well. She covers a broad spectrum of quilting in this book.
It is a MUST have in your quilting library!!
Oh and there is a GIVEAWAY too...
To celebrate the release of this new book, Pat Wys is sponsoring an amazing giveaway.
One lucky winner will receive an autographed copy of "Knockout Neutrals", signed by Pat Wys, a spool of Aurifil thread (neutral of course) and a “Knockout Bundle” of 15 fat quarters ( 5 dark value, 5 medium value and 5 light value) to help kick start you make any project in this wonderful new book.

I have two boys/men and hubby to quilt for so most of their quilts have been neutral quilts. The quilts are so soft and cuddly. I usually use plaid flannel for the back and they are so warm. The "colors" are so soothing and restful.

My experience has certainly changed from when I started quilting when I was in my forties. I followed patterns, then went to a "grab and sew" technique with scraps and now it is more in the "modern quilting" stage. I really like the way the modern quilts look.

I've never made a neutral quilt before but it would be great having one to tone down all the colorful quilts I'm making!
WoW! The projects shown have blown me away! They are so gorgeous! Before this hop I only thought of neutrals as being beiges and tans. I love, love the gray and black being used all together as well. This book is on my wishlist for sure! Last year my LQS did a BOM using all neutrals, cremes to a dark browns. It is still a WIP but it's coming together so beautiful.

Pats book has sure peaked my interest in making a neutral colored project. Just love her talent, so eye catching.

I'm working on an uneven nine patch quilt for a Christmas gift for my sister. I'm using Asian fabrics that were gifted to me from a friend. The pattern calls for neutrals , but I had ony a few fat quarters in my stash. So of course I had to shop for some. Now I try to pick up a yard or two when I see them. The quilts are beautiful . I would love to make Arbouretum.
I'm seeing more and more projects with neutrals and I just love them. I'm planning a couple of neutral projects myself, quilts for my brother and BIL. Thanks for the chance to win.
Love your neutrals. I have your first book and would love this one also. You taught at our guild HCQG and my top came out great.
thanks
Joan
A teacher once told me that if she judged a quilt show and she had two quilts, one with neutrals n one without, she would pick the one without. That neutrals had no place in quilts. That we could pick a small print that almost looked neutral. So since then I don't put neutrals in my quilts. But I have seen so many quilts lately with neutrals that I am rethinking this idea. I am wanting to buy some n get started. Hope I win.
Love the quilt that is your favorite! I have EXACTLY the right fabric to use for a backing on that so wouldn't it be lovely to win the book & fabs??? YES!
I love neutral, but haven't tackled one yet. I'm a little scared! I would love the book to conquer my fears!
I'm always drawn to light yellow fabrics in my quilts, to balance out brighter colors. I think that's as neutral as I've gone yet though - would love to challenge myself with a neutral color scheme!
I have to make the tree of life quilt. I admit, I am into color, but that one is a must!
When I was a teenager, I bought a bunch of shirting fabrcis to make a skirts, and then when I was about 30 I sewed some of them into a quilt top (that has yet to be finished, I was very pregnant). I love neutrals but never worked with them.
Very nice - I'd love to use neutrals to make a quilt for my bed. So far I've only worked on quilts for the kiddos which have all been brightly colored!
Coming to the quilting world from that of painting watercolors where I learned of 4 painterly components.
Shape
Value
Color
Texture
Importance in order shown. Value is very important and neutrals show it off well. Sometimes colors are harder to see value-wise.
Never thought about making a neutral quilt before...But that looks interesting
I made a B and white quilt for myself that is currrnelty hanging in my living room (a work of art!) and another that was a very well received wedding gift. These quilts look great.
Lawton_linda (at) yahoo (dot) com
I recently used Little Black Dress fabric to make a black/tan/cream quilt, which is quite stunning. Thanks
Depends on who the quilt is for. Some people neutrals just fit them, others like bright colors. I just love to make the quilts!!
Wow - I love all the photos from this book that I've seen, but the adorable pillow definitely goes on my list. I love books that discuss color and value as those lessons can be used over and over on multiple projects.
