Hello Everyone,
One thing that I have learned about myself over time is that some things never change. A while ago my mother had found some of my old art work, from when I was a child, that she had kept. She brought them to me and I had put them away in the closet. Yesterday, I rediscovered them and thought it would be neat to share.
This first one was done when I was about 9 years old. You can see I loved color then like I do now. Very abstract, but would make a nice quilt, wouldn't it? It even won First place in our local savings bank art contest. FYI... the bank no longer exists.
This one was done two years later and also won First Place. Again quite abstract, but full of color. I did use a different medium though. The first was crayon, this one was markers.
This last one was done one year after the last. You can see it was a still life portrait of art supplies! How appropriate too. I vaguely remember doing this one in art class. You can see it was mounted on gray construction paper. The construction paper looks like it has seen better days. This was done with crayons.
So as you can see not much has changed, I am still in love with color, but now in a different medium... FABRIC!

How fun! I was and still am a stick figure kind of gal. I'm just happy I can color inside of the lines in a color book. :o) My word verification is junedone. Yep, it's the last day of June so I guess it's done!
Funny how things are formed to impress our minds when we are young. I cut shapes out and glued or white pasted them to other paper. I like to do applique. Chris
How fun to see your artwork from your younger days!! That's cool that your Mom saved them for you. I save a lot of my kids' stuff, but my Mom didn't save any of mine. I was actually just going through a little portfolio I have of my artwork from my high school, college and grad school days, and discovered, sadly, that there was water damage on the edges of most of them. My daughter is in a new phase of drawing like crazy and I will definitely save some for her. It's neat to see that you liked bright colors and abstract images back then. Thanks for sharing!
You can see your talent for colour and shape developing right in front of your eyes. How exciting!
You are right, they would make wonderful quilts.....you have a very fun talent.
Jackie, those are fabulous. If I were you, I would get busy putting that first one to fabric! What a great quilt design. Also, it would be great to put a photo of the original artwork in the label. Get busy girlfriend.
Does the 2nd one have black stitches? I don't think I have any artwork, but I do have a report I did in 2nd or 3rd grade about Rhode Island. I chose the smallest state since I was the smallest kid in class. How funny that I live here in RI now! (grew up in upstate NY)

I remeber seeing some of my "art work" on my Grandmother's cupboard, but since then she has moved to an old age home, and I am not sure what happend to it.
Those are so cute! and I see such a resemblance now to the quilts you love to make. You have always had an eye for color.
Wow! I am impressed. I hope you'll make a little quilt inspired by each one of these. Well, actually, you probably have already made many quilts inspired by these without even knowing it.
Jackie - Soooo colorful1 I think you should have them framed and hang them in your studio!!! Oh, never mind, there's no wall space left in there - LOL

I really REALLY think you should remake those in quilts. What a great keepsake and history for yourself that would make. I entered an art contest in 8th grade. I didn't think I had talent but my art teacher did. She really encouraged me. I did a weaving and made a bag out of my weaving. So it was kind of a textile thing. But it was a mixed media art category and I won first place. I had forgotten about that until you shared. It is funny what things we did as kids that were the infancy of our talents. Great post.
Yes, I have some artwork left from my younger years. I was an are-tist at a very young age. If I was painting my mom would let me stay up late.
When I paint I can make quick easy decisions on colors, but I have a harder time with that when it comes to my fabrics.....go figure!!

It is so much fun to see art works from your childhood! They are so sweet! You should definitely consider making them into quilts.
How fun to have some of your artwork from childhood. I think you should make a quilt out of the 2nd one, that is very creative!
