Mountains & Plains

Hello Everyone,

You probably have been wondering if all I have been doing as of late is paper piecing?  The answer is no... I have actually been doing other things too.  I know... shocker!

Oh and there is a little surprise at the end of this post, so stick with me.

I thought you might like to see..

I designed another quilt for Quilt Magazine out of Australian Aboriginal fabrics and Kona Cotton.  I wanted to use a great variety of prints and make it more scrappy looking.

It is a combination of strip pieced triangles for the border and half log cabin blocks for the body of the quilt.

A fun Australian print for the backing.

A leaf print for an edge to edge quilting design.

Bright and brilliant, just like I like it, but a scrap busting appeal.  I know you all have TONS of scraps right?

Here is the whole quilt. It is 60" X 60" square.  But you could really enlarge it to whatever you like... or make it smaller.

For variation, here I have done it in African fabrics....

Yes there is a stray block taking up the design wall... just ignore that one.  You can find African fabrics in my shop online by clicking here, Australian fabrics can by found here.

Now for the big reveal...

Here is the photo from the magazine.  Don't they do a great job?  I love how the quilt looks draped over the chair.

Here is their flat shot... again they do a fantastic job!  The quilt looks gorgeous!

Here is the magazine that you can find it in... As luck may have it you can find it in my online shop.

Click on the following to find:

Now for the surprise...

This is a FREE downloadable pattern.  You can find it by clicking..

I hope you enjoyed the tour of the Mountains & Plains!!  If you decide to make it after downloading the pattern, please send me a photo!  I would love to see your version!

Flying Geese

Hello Everyone,

If you like flying geese then this quilt is calling your name!!

I designed this quilt last year and it has finally hit the newsstands!!  You can find it in Quilt Almanac.

This quilt is relatively simple to create.  I used a variety of batiks, but I think this would look fabulous in modern fabrics, Kaffe fabrics... really the sky is the limit.

This flat shot was from the magazine.  I do have photos that I took of it last year, but believe it or not I cannot locate them in my photo library.  And yes, I was not going out in the snow to take new photos... BRRRRR!!

Here is a stylized photo from inside the magazine.

And of course, my photo.... I look younger here, don't you think??

Anyway, the really cool news is I am on the cover again!!

See down there in the lower left corner.  Yes, I know it is small, but it is the cover!! Woohoo!! I am excited nonetheless.

If you like this quilt or just the magazine, you can find both in my online shop.  Well, the quilt itself is not for sale, but the kit is by clicking here.  Find the magazine by clicking here.

Oh and guess the name of the quilt...

Flying Geese.

Fresh Palette

Hello Everyone,

My newest design is out!  This is another design using Australian Aboriginal fabrics from M & S Textiles.

When designing this quilt, I wanted to have the lights and darks play nicely together.

Yes, I even did a little appliqué, Pat Sloan!!  For those of you who follow me, you will know that I typically don't do much appliqué, but when I designed this quilt, I really liked the look.

I did circle quilting in the sashing.

The purples, ecrus, greens, and pink really play nicely together.

Let me introduce Fresh Palette!  It measures 43" X 43".  This is a great size for a table topper and/or wall hanging.

This is the backing fabric I used... isn't this the BEST!!  It is called Wild Bush Flowers and comes in 3 different colors too.  You can find it here in my shop.

You can also find my quilt in the October/November 2012 issue of Quilt Magazine! The pattern and directions are all inside. This issue can be found here in my shop.

But it doesn't stop here...

You can find the kit to make this exact quilt in my shop!  Just click here.  I know that it may show out of stock this morning, but we are re-kitting today as the first round has already sold out.

We will have more in stock this afternoon... I guarantee it!

UPDATE:   The kits are now back in stock!!

I had fun making this quilt and I know you will too.  Enjoy!

Until Next Time...

Hello Everyone,

I have been bursting at the "seams" to share this with all of you!  Most of you know that I design quilts for Quilt Magazine... if you don't get this one... you should.

My latest design is probably one of my favorites.

I love the yummy color combos.  Using all batiks from Island Batik.

Quilted it using variegated thread and did some custom quilting.

You know I have an obsession with flying geese...  This quilt is loaded with them!  I used the method I show in my tutorial here.

Another shot of the quilting.

The quilting in the tiny cornerstone that joins the fabulous green sashing.

Meet Island Breeze... Ahhhhh.... can you hear the waves crashing around you yet?

Raspberry Roll

Hello Everyone,

Have you ever seen a Raspberry... Roll?  Well, this could be your first time.

This quilt was designed by me for Quilt Magazine and I have to say it is quick and fun!

Using 2.5 pre-cut strips in batiks, gives this quilt a great scrappy look.

The entire top and binding were created from 2.5 inch strips. The only yardage needed was for the backing.

I quilted it with a pattern called Feathered Truffles.  I love how it turned out.

Since it was nice out the other day, I had taken it outside for a photo shoot.  All the above photos were taken by me.  It was great to have a 50 degree day in December!! Plus the lighting is waaaay better outside.

This above photo was also taken by me outside.  Yes, the grass looks pretty green still doesn't it?  It is on the southern side of the house that could be why.  But I love the contrast of the colors of the quilt against the grass.

This is one of Quilt Magazine's photos.  Love it on the sofa!

This is their flat shot.  Their photographers always do a great job.

You can find it in the current (Feb/March 2012) issue.  If you want another quick, easy, and fun quilt to make this could be it!

You can find the magazine by clicking here.
You can find the kit to make this quilt by clicking here.

For today only ALL batiks are on sale for $7.95 per yard in my shop.  Click here to start shopping.

Don't forget, today is the last day to enter the Fat Quarter Giveaway!! Click here to find out the details.
