Vintage Grandmother's Flower Garden

Hello Everyone,

Back at Christmas time, my sister in law had a wonderful vintage Grandmother's Flower Garden Quilt with her.  When she took it out of the bag to show me,  I was in love!

Each flower is hand sewn with fabric that dates back to the 20s or 30s.

The choices of colors is just fantastic!  I love them encircled with the solid white.  As some of you may remember, I am working on my own.  You can read about it here.

The binding was a sweet yellow and two of the edges are zig zag, the others straight.

The entire quilt is hand quilted and in excellent shape!  It has a couple of stains on the back side, but not on the front.  The great part of this story was that it was for sale!!!  I was psyched!!  She said the proceeds would go to the local animal shelter (something near and dear to my heart).  I asked how much and she said to make an offer and guess what????  They took it and I own this fabulous quilt!

I am in love with it!!  I don't think that I could have found a quilt like this in the condition that it is in, I am so fortunate!  Thank you, Shirley for bringing it to me this weekend!

Also, a couple of months ago a very good friend of mine, (you know who you are), found these...

and sent them to me!  What a surprise to receive these in my mailbox.  My day was made!

Some great vintage Grandmother Flower Garden blocks that are begging for me to finish them.

Great colors and well put together.  Now for one more project on my to do list!  Thank you so much for making my day, you truly are wonderful!

Do any of you have anything vintage?  I would love to know and if you have photos, would love to see them!

Until Next Time...

Love the Grandmother's Flower Garden. You were indeed lucky to come across one in such good shape. I own several quilts made by my grandmother, but hers were well-used and well-loved and are not in such good shape. I have pieces of my mother's attempt to make a GFG. I have worked on it in the past. I think I need to get it out again and get that thing finished.

Love that quilt! You were a smart gal that day! And the blocks you received are just so sweet! Vintage in my house is me and my hubby! Actually, I do have some small embroidered linen pieces from my great-grandmother, and should probably try to think of a way to use them in a quilt!

Enjoy your day!

I have a very similar quilt to yours that my parents bought at auction years ago. I'm so happy to have it, since it's a block pattern I'm unlikely to tackle myself. Enjoy yours, it's a beauty!

All things animal are near and dear to my heart too. You both benefited -- you got a gorgeous quilt while helping the shelter. It's a lovely quilt and so are the flower garden blocks. I know you'll make your own treasure with them.

That is gorgeous! How lucky that your bid got the quilt! I have no antiques in my history, my granmothers didn't quilt. But I would love to own one! Thanks for sharing. The other blocks are pretty too.

I also started making hexies a few years ago and it is just sitting here, waiting for me to get back to it.This makes me see that I need to!

My 82 year old aunt recently gave me the "blocks" to a grandmother's flower garden quilt to finish. Her grandmother gave it to her to work on when she was a teenager! I hope to get it put together and quilted to pass on to my future granddaughter. Such a treasure!

i have 3 of my mother's quilts. one is a flower garden much like yours. my grandmother pieced it for my mother and they quilted it the summer before i started high school. it the hexagon edge and looks bound!! i also have her double wedding ring....my dad's mother and aunt pieced it for mom and dad's wedding. it is dated 1957 though mom and dad got married in 1940. i suspect it was quilted then. dad's mother died in 44 and was sick for a few years. the other quilt is a dresden star done in green and white. i had never seen the pattern before, but found an updated pattern online a few years ago. i think my grandmother or her mother pieced it. not sure when it was quilted. i will get some pictures taken and send them to you.

WOW! I am so excited for you!

I have a Grandmother's Garden quilt (kinda sorta....long story) that my great aunt made. Some of the fabric is beginning to tear, so I put it away in my closet until I know how to fix it.
