Testing... 1, 2, 3... Testing...

Hello Everyone,

I am so excited, I am testing a new little something, that you will see at Quilt Market! I am having tons of fun.

These are my trimmings. I don't know why, but I love these! I know I have said it before too. I just wish I knew if there was something I could do with these trimmings. Do any of you do anything with your trimmings? I would love to know.

Here is a little sneak peek at what I am working on, can you see my color scheme here. Loving it!! Plus the fact that they are Kaffe fabrics is even better! But that is all I can show you right now, so make sure you stay tuned.

Speaking of staying tuned, the newest episode of my podcast is now available on iTunes for download or you can click here and listen right from your computer. Remember they are ALWAYS free!

I think you will like this one too. I discuss working with silk fabric and silk threads. My hope is to inspire you to try it for yourself. Let me know what you think and if you have ever worked with silks yourself. Enjoy!!

***Please VOTE... I am so honored, I have been nominated as one of the best online quilt shops AND one of the best long arm quilters for SewCalGal's Golden Quilter Awards!! Please take a minute to go and vote for me in both categories, if you agree. I would be humbled and honored to win in either. Thank you for your support! You can click right here to vote. Thank you!***

Until Next Time...

I have trouble throwing away small scraps and trimmings, but have projects to last for years. I've started making pet beds with them. I take left over polar fleece, flannel scraps or other fabrics and make a small pillow. As I'm sewing, I put the trimmings in the bag. I contacted a dog rescue group. She is coming next week to pick up the beds to use with the foster dogs waiting for adoption.

Oh yes, my tiny remnants wind up as collaged accents on pieces, fabric post cards, fabric bowls...etc.

Gorgeous Kaffe fabrics. I have read somewhere that the trimmings are great for filling dog beds. Mine get thrown out but I always feel such an accomplishment to have "scraps."

Congratulations, Jackie!
Can't wait to see more of your project!

Becky beat me to it...I was going to tell you I know folks that use fabric scraps/trimmings as stuffing for pet beds. Your project is sure colorful.

I love Barb's idea! If those were my trimmings I'd put them in a pretty glass jar and I would look at them every day and smile! :0)

Jackie, I love scraps, I use the thin pieces to crochet rugs. They last for years.

My favorite use for scraps 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch wide (any length) is to stack six or 8 on top of each other and sew across their narrow width, chain piecing. I do this to several bundles. I then tie them all together with a piece of selvage, take it outside and shake it to fluff it up. You have a perfectly matching bow to put on a gift quilt. If you're not giving the quilt as a gift you have a bow for any gift you may give.
Any scraps between 1/2 inch to around an inch I save for shelter pet beds as the gals above. Larger than that get saved for crumb blocks...mindless sewing when I just can't think but need to sew. nothing goes into the garbage!

Trimmings - I give them to a friend who uses them to stuff pet beds.

I guess lots of us do - put them in an old pillowcase, sew up the end, and bring to animal shelter/pound.

I agree with Terry, I would put my very favorite scraps in a glass jar and put them on a shelf where I could see them. Only the smallest pieces though, the others should be put into a new fabulous project!

you could always give them to the birds!

hmmm wonder what you're up too! The trimmings are so beautiful...seems a shame to just throw them away! I always hate to do that! Wondering if you have some new tool to trim large half-square triangles. I could sure use one...I have a great one for smaller blocks but have been working on larger blocks lately.

Trimmings like that look like jewels in a glass jar. I use some of my trimmings from various things to paste on the front of notecards.

My trimmings have all been going in the trash, but now I'll be saving them for pet pillows!

Looking forward to seeing the rest of what you're working on there! I agree - your online quilt shop is awesome. I love your fabric selection!

You could make fabric tape with the scraps. Check it out.

I use pretty narrow trims like those for packaging in small gifts to other quilters. Imagine a gift nestled inside a box lined with those pretty little strips of color!

Voted for you several days ago. :) I don't do anything with my trimmings except save them and hope I can find something to use them for before they overtake me.

Those trimmings look too good to throw away. Your sneek peek looks great. xo

I was very happy to vote for you! I have seen your lovely quilting first hand and love your online store as well!

I already voted for you before seeing this post :)

I used to save all those little pieces but I never used them. Now I toss them in the trash with no guilt.

I have read about other quilters tossing the scraps into pillowcases and sewing them up for animal shelters like others have mentioned.

I see those lovely scraps and I want to braid them together and make ??

As has been said... putting them in pretty jars, then on a shelf brightens up the studio. I do this with the 'bunny ears' too. Fancy shape jelly jars.

I got several new ideas of things to do with trimmings. Most of my ideas have already been mentioned. Now it is spring and you could put a few out on a bush or limb for the birds when they build or line their new nests.... the other thing I do is add them to the compost pile - when things have to cleaned up and there is no time to make a pet bed, bow for gifts, etc.
