Me On Horseback in Arizona...

Hello Everyone,

Yes, that is right, my son convinced me to go horseback riding in the desert. I have to say that, it was a good day.

We started here at the ranch in Saguaro Lake. Just a beautiful area.

The horses were big! But I guess I knew that. Since I never had the chance to actually get on one, I never realized how BIG they were, but beautiful.

Really beautiful animals that were going to carry us for 1.5 hours through mountains and ravines. Pretty amazing when you think about it.

Here we are getting ready to ride. My son and I, ready willing and able!

The scenery was gorgeous throughout our journey. But I do love the desert terrain. My horse did stumble twice. I wasn't flustered, just hung on and he got right back up.

Here we are on our horses... Bert and Mesquite. I kept calling Mesquite, Mackenzie. I don't know why, must be that I just liked that name, who knows? But he responded to me no matter what I called him.

Notice in between us the beautiful Four Peaks. They actually had snow on them. I am so glad they were far, far away! You can also see a bit of Saguaro Lake below us. We were up pretty high. That meant we had to come back down.

Back at the ranch, I took a photo of our trusty young guide Ken. He was truly a great guide!! Thanks to my son too for suggesting that we do this, it was a great day!!

Next up... an ATV tour!

Until Next Time...

When you return home and get a good look at the photo of you and your son on horseback, you will realize that it is a life-long keeper of the memory - what a marvelous photo !!

You are a LONG way from home and so happy !

All that sunshine and blue sky. Reminds me of my desert roots, cactus and all. What a fun day!

You've never riden a horse before? Welcome to the Wild, Wild West.
When I was a young I wanted to be a Cowgirl when I grew up.
Did you walk like John Wayne for a while after you got off?

I believe you need to be buying yourself a cowboy hat!

You look like a natural on horseback, Jackie. I can't believe that you've not been on board before. Had Brian ridden before this trip? (Mackenzie was Kirk's dog....perhaps that's where you got the name?)

What city is Saguaro Lake near? My parents spend the winters north of Scootsdale/Phoenix and it is beautiful out there. We've done the horseback trail riding thing and the ATV thing (in Tonto National Forest). And there's great hiking (at any level) and birding and sunrise hot air balloon rides-- ENJOY!! Hope you're having fun out there! I read about a great quilt shop in Scottsdale recently in a magazine. Have a great, relaxing vacation!

You're definitely in the desert! Looks like what I'm so accustomed too...although I am more partial to green trees and shrubs than the desert landscape!

Oh Jackie! Looks like some serious fun in the sun. We switched over to heavy rain but I'll take it over snow & ice any day.
All my best,
Heather

I'm so proud of you going horseback riding! I live in Arizona and am pretty chicken. I should go out, though, and try it again.

Not to rub in in, but it's 57 degrees right now in southern Arizona, heading for 80 today.
