Hello Everyone,
Welcome to the final chapter in my NYC adventure. Of course there was a little fabric shopping involved. I am sure that many of you are saying "What could Jackie possibly need when it comes to fabric, she owns her own shop?" There is always some fabric out there that a girl just has to have, right??
I have always loved silk dupioni and started a very small collection a few years ago. My trip to NYC gave me the chance to add. Just take a look at these jewels.
Gorgeous bright and iridescent colors sitting atop a black dupioni. Victoria took us through the garment district and let me tell you, you can get silk dupioni at wonderful prices. So I took advantage.
A closer look at these juicy colors. Victoria's perfect description for these.
Another view.
One thing you must know about silks, really any kind, is that they tend to ravel and fray quite a bit. So what I recommend is backing them with a very lightweight fusible interfacing before cutting into them and handling them over and over for piecing. This should eliminate some of the fraying.
However, my buddy Karen decided on the ride down that she was going to start a collection of all her stray threads. So on the way home, on the train, she took her scissors out and gave my silks a haircut and put them in her handy dandy zipper bag to add to her collection.
Of course, I had to add to my black and white stash too.
Speaking of adding to the stash, today is Wonderful Wednesday!! And as promised, for today only, you may take 15% off ALL Westminster Fabrics in my online shop. Just enter the discount code westminster15 at checkout. Click here to start shopping now.

Great buys Jackie. That fabric is luscious.
ooh! they are so JUICY! You've got me itching to go get some too! I walk through those stores, and it makes me crazy with ideas.... I've learned to stay out...!! or my loft would be stacked to the gills in fabrics!
Juicy--perfect! Perhaps one day you'll cut into those beauties and show us what you're doing with them. Could you imagine a field trip of quilters going through the garmet district! A frenzy would break out for certain. I'd want to get lost in the trims and buttons stores.
Oh I'm so jealous..I would love to look thru the garment district stores! Gorgeous silks, the sheen is incredible. So glad you had a great time!
Wow. I don't usually comment but am looking but am very far behind. I will try to catch up on your blog this weekend. The fabric is gorgeous!

Oh wow, these silk fabrics are gorgeous! Love the shine and the colors! Now I want Victoria to take me there too. So happy to see these recaps of your fabulous day in the City.
Are you wondering why I'm saving these pretty threads?
I've never made paper before, but I'm thinking that adding silk threads to the mix of fibers would be beautiful!
I think I'll offer to sweep Jackie's quilt room now and then.
Heh, heh, heh. (Rubbing knuckles.)
Wait, did I just hear you say 50 some-odd new Westminster fabrics? Oooh, I have to take a look! I love that stuff!
Great fabrics Jackie! Do you have favorite shops in the garment district? I get so confused by all the fabric shops -- about the only one that I have down pat is Gray Line Linens.
The fabrics are beautiful but I can't imagine working with silk!
Those are so gorgeous! The must feel absolutely heavenly!
PRETTY! I want to reach out and touch them. I promise not to lick them though. :-)
The silk is so lucious in these beautiful array of colors... what a fun trip!!
The dupioni silks are just stunning. I remember well working with those, when I used to sew garments for ladies. If I'd just look at some of them, they'd unravel a few threads out of spite. I had to pin and cut and sew carefully, but the silk garments were unique and lovely.
Anxious to see what you do with them some day.
What a beautiful rainbow of silk! I'm headed to NYC next week. Any fabric shop recommendations??
Gorgeous colours!!!
Wow Jackie, you scored some luscious fabrics. Love the bright cheerful colors.
Those dupioni silks are simply luscious!!!!
Wow! Drool! Along the way I intended to collect Indian Sari's and make something from all the beautiful silks and detail work. Never quite got it done, still on my list. Those silks are amazing!
Those silks are divine!! Ooh la la and love the B&W street map!
Loved your quilts and rambling as you called it. Your quilts are way out of my comfort zone, but always fun to look at.
