What Do You Do When You Have Time????

Hello Everyone,

Yes, I had some time! Granted, they were stolen moments here and there, but none the less, it was time. So here are a few of the things that I was able to accomplish.

1. I opened an Etsy Shop! Yay, I am excited. You can check it out from the button on my sidebar or just click here. My main focus will be die-cut fabrics in all forms, strips, squares, circles, dresdens, drunkards, you name it! I will do custom orders too!

2. I finally updated my website gallery with new customer quilts. Check it out here. I am so behind. So if any of you are still waiting to see your quilt there, I promise it will be there soon.

3. Last time I had said we had taken a couple of road trips to PA. Since then we also went to Boston. Well, I don't know about you, but when my hubby is driving, I am stitching. Therefore, I have some TIME! Here are my results.....

It was the perfect time to work on my Grandmother's flower garden. I basted hexagons.

Sewed them together.

I quickly went up to 20 flowers. Now I know that I need 96 total for the project that I am doing, but I would say being approximately 1/5 th done is pretty good.

I just love the little stack. In my journeys, I was able to find this little packet of finger saving heaven. I don't know about all of you, but I never could get used to a thimble. So my finger has gotten callused and an occasional hole from the needle. OW!

So these little gems are a real helper. You just peel them from the paper and stick them to your finger. At first it takes a little getting used to, but then you don't even know they are there. And the best part no more holes in my finger. You can find them online by clicking here.

Oh and here is a picture of my little tackle box filled with new hexagons to baste and sew.

So, in conclusion, this is what I do with those stolen moments here and there. Not bad! I would love to hear from you, what do you do in those little moments that you might have?

Until Next Time....

I found that those little stick on's for my fingers made my needle slip all over the place and I ended up getting more holes in my fingers! Did it take you long to get used to them? I have tried them several times over the years.

Having those hexagons all ready to go like that makes it so easy to get in a few stitches here and there!

What progress! I can't read or sew in the car, I get sick. Oh I wish I could. But I do use a thimble. It took majoring in HEC and a college degree. My HEc teacher insisted we use a tailors thimble (no head) and thrust with the side. It may not be the quilters way but now I can't sew without it. I use the stick on pads for my other hand, the finger underneath. they're great.

I love your Grandmother's Flower Garden. That was actually the first quilt I finished. I used ziplock bags to organize my pieces. I think the tackle box is a great idea!

This is my favorite hand work to do when I'm watching tv. Good job! Jenn

I love those little sticky thimble pads--I use them all the time, because I can't stand wearing a traditional thimble!

What do I do with a stolen bit of time? Normally, I hand-piece. I've been working on pinwheels in this fashion for nearly a month, but now, I have over 20 done! Not a huge amount, but every little bit counts. :)

Your shop looks great! I love the ribbon :) Your flowers are beautiful - that's a lot of progress in my book!! Glad you don't have anymore holes in your finger - I have a rubber thimble that is easier to use than the old metal :) Have a great weekend!!

Hi Jackie,
Your "Easy Stash" quilt is gorgeous!! The work that must have gone into that one.....just beautiful. Love the colors!

The "Thimble It" tip is a really great tip for those of you that can't stand a thimble. I've been using them for about 6-7 years and they are great.

Your hexagons are great...you go girl. It'll be a fantastic quilt when you are done.

In my off time I've been reading a lot of blogs lately and learning tons. I can't seem to get enough of the creativity that I am seeing. I am humbled and excited at the same time. I am so grateful for all of you that share your talents with all of us. It's awesome, ...thank you! ~Cheryl

Hiya Jackie! I have just found your lovely blog and love the hexies you are doing. I am currently doing my own version of the Insanity quilt that has hexies stitched into diamond shapes and a border of the hexie flowers . It is very addictive but hard on the hands. I have been using those stick on thimbles since I started stitching because my fingers are quite tiny and no thimble seems to fit. I stick them sideways on my finger and they work a treat. However, I do find in the warmer months ( I live in Australia) they tend to slide off my finger from perpiration. Other than that, I forget they are on and sometimes realise I am still wearing it when I wash my hands!

Thanks for sharing your patchwork journey.

My stolen moments are often spent going through my blogroll. If I am up to date then I sew what I can in the time I have.

Your flowers are looking so beautiful. 1/5th is good. I sew or knit in the car too unless I need to navagate away from what the sat nav wants us to do.

Congrats and good luck on your Etsy shop. When we travel I always bring a project along to work on. On our recent vacation I bought a crocheted purse.

If I had the extra time I would update my blogs. I would like to combine them together into one site.

Congratulations on opening an Etsy shop. I'm going to pop over there as soon as I'm done reading blogs.
Free time? What's that?
Actually, my free time is normally in the evenings and currently I work on my hexagon quilt, or applique those little Bunny Hill blocks.

About my 'me time' this week, whenever I've got it then I jump to my little box of scraps and sew! I have a target to use all my scraps this month.

Your flowers look great. I might have to send you some fabric to cut into hexagons. I have a bunch of flowers a friend gave me from her mothers things. I really want to put them together and need to cut out more hexagons to go inbetween.
