I Was Mistaken

Hello Everyone,

On my last blog post, I wrote that was posting the last of the photos from my quilt retreat last week.  But I was mistaken.  When I connected my camera to the computer, guess what?  I discovered more photos!!! They are all from the last day too.  Here are a few more that I wanted to share with you.

Pirjo worked hard all week with her GORGEOUS batiks and made this Turning Twenty quilt.

Darlene brought in some of her Mom's old pattern and books for a "yard" sale.  It was fun to see some of the really old patterns and books. We miss you Betty....

Darlene also brought in her 4th of July quilt that she made in the class that I taught.  She was able to finish it up and did a wonderful job don't you think?  It is one of my favorite patterns.

Judy and Diane made these cute little note pads in a jiffy!

I continued to work on my feathered star... Pssst... I have more done than now shown in this photo, so stay tuned.

Carmela finished this quilt!

Darlene began to work on a new project. (This was already started, hmmmm... don't we all have some UFOs ???)

And my good friend Pam was finishing up her Sea Glass Quilt!  Isn't it gorgeous!!

It Is A Wrap!

Hello Everyone,

I am back home from my Fall quilt retreat and missing my quilting buddies already!  I had a fantastic time and was quite productive.  But so were all my friends.  Let me show you a little more of what happened at our retreat.

Sue brought in this quilt to have my friend Pam quilt it.  Why it is significant to me is because Sue took this class from me last year and completed the quilt!  It was great to see the 4th of July completed!

Shirley made this bed runner out of her strips as a gift.

Sue worked all week finishing up her Grandma's Wedding Ring.

We had a demo on how to make this little Christmas Tree ornament.  Very sweet and a great gift too.

Judy was frequently found sifting through her fabrics looking for just the right one!

We also had a great show and tell night.  This is one of the quilts that we had contributed blocks to for the Quilts of Valor Foundation.

Sarah showing her quilt.

Carmela says she is not a quilter... I think she is, what do you think?

Poppy showing the beautiful Poppy quilt that she made.

Pam's Sea Glass quilt in progress.

My Feathered Star Quilt in progress.

Needless to say we all had a fantastic time!  Lots of laughs, sewing, food and memories.

Sew Much Fun!

Hello Everyone,

We have been having a ball at our retreat!  I wanted to share a few more images with you.

Darlene is working on a 1930s sampler and made this wonderful Dresden Plate for the medallion in the center.

Everyone was intrigued with these three quilty ladies so we all had to take photos of them!

Then some of the girls actually got up to do a cheer for the UConn Football team!  Yes, I did catch it on  video.

Jane finished this wonderful quilt.  Love it and it was made with all strips.

Pam got half her Pepperdish done and it is going to be a beauty!

Susan got all her 100 Modern blocks complete too!

And these were some pillowcases that were made for Christmas presents.

I finally finished all the units for the Bali Bed Runner and am trying to decide on which type of layout that I like best.  So let's name this one Number 1.

This is Number 2

This is Number 3

Which do you like best??

Remember all the colors will get used it is just a matter of how I lay it out...

The Best Time of The Year

Hello Everyone,

I should have said this is ONE of my favorite times of the year... I am on quilt retreat for 6 days with some of closest quilting buddies!! YAY!  It doesn't get much better than that.  Uninterrupted sewing time, food, friends, and fun for six whole days.  How great is that?

Let's take a peek into some of what has been happening...

Judy is working on this fabulous quilt with tons of Kaffe Fassett fabrics.  It is turning out to be a real beauty.  This pattern is called Cinnamon and Ginger and can be found here.

I am working on the Bali Bed Runner in luscious new batiks!! This is just a sneak peek. I am having tons of fun putting this quilt together and will be teaching it at a retreat at the Strong House Inn coming up in March, 2014.  There is still room available in the retreat if you would like to learn this classic design.  Just click here for more information on the retreat.

I will have this exact color way kitted in my shop for you, but until then you can purchase the pattern here.

Pat made this gorgeous Judy Niemeyer Feathered Star prior to the retreat and brought it in for show and tell.  Isn't it gorgeous.  She used Asian fabrics to complete it.  The pattern can be found here.

Joan was speedy on this quilt.  She made it in just one day and it is for her Grandson!!

Carmella made this improv quilt and just has to get the binding on and it will be done.

Sue was also speedy and finished this very elegant looking quilt.

We also had a demo from Deb and it was super.  She showed how to use the hexie tool

Jane finished here tree skirt, which she told me she is going to use as a table topper.  A dual duty quilt!!

Tons more photos... this really was just a little peek, but I have lots more to show, so stay tuned.

Until Next Time....

That Extra Day....

Hello Everyone,

The retreat officially ended yesterday, but there were a few stragglers that are staying until today!  That would include me, my buddy Ginny, and my new Canadian friends Roger and Ardelle Kerr.

So yesterday, we did a little bit of several things....

Ardelle had stayed up late on Saturday night to finish her Mariner's Compass Quilt.  Like her husband Roger's Feathered Star, she used a combination of silks and cottons.

I love the colors that she chose too.  Totally something I wouldn't have picked, but I am in LOVE with it!!  Gorgeous!

Here is a close up of the center.  You can see a mix of some cotton fabrics here.  They add a slight bit of texture.

The guys holding the quilt in the natural light outside so we can get a good photo.  That is my hubby on the left and Ardelle's on the right.

Then the girls took a ride over to see our friend, Vicki Ibison.  Some of you may know her by reading about her in the last issue of Machine Quilting Unlimited.  She is an extremely talented machine quilter and has won many awards!

When we walked in my eyes went directly to this Kaffe quilt that one of her customers had dropped off for quilting.  As you know I just love Kaffe fabrics and quilts and this one was no exception.

Vicki was kind enough to share with us some of her quilting secrets and we learned a lot!  She was quilting the Bali Wedding Star that you see on her machine and it is turning out wonderfully!

She also showed us some of her doodlings and how she goes about creating various kinds of feathers.  Very interesting and gives me a whole new perspective on quilting my quilts.

Then after our visit with Vicki, we went back to get some more sewing in....

And I was able to get all these units complete for my Arizona Cactus Quilt.  You can find the pattern and kit in my online shop by clicking here.

Roger and Ardelle both worked on...

Geese at My Wedding Table Runner.  They used a combination of Kona Solids and Silks.  I just love this color combo.

My friend Ginny worked more on her Captain's Wheel.  It is just turning our stunning.  Choosing red, white, and blue for the colors was genius.

Today we are heading back home and will have lots less uninterrupted sewing time.  It was great to have a week dedicated to our projects and feeling a great sense of accomplishment.

But best yet, we made some great new friends!!

If you would like to see photos from the whole week, just click here.

Until Next Time...
