Quilt Market ~ The Floor is Open!

Hello Everyone,

The first REAL day of market is when the market floor opens up.  Eager market goers all wait at the doors for 9:30 AM when they open up, we all make our way in to see what is new and exciting in the quilting world.

One of the first things that I wanted to share with you is my latest design. I first showed it to you here, but...

here it is all made up and hanging in the Windham booth... along with some snazzy pillows on the sofa.

See it really is mine!!  Woohoo!

Then I was asked by my friend Stephanie of Loft Creations to find her quilt Peek A Boo Street in the United Notions/Moda booth.

Here it is, isn't it too cute?

I was lucky enough to see it in person!  I quilted it for Stephanie!

It was a line for my good friend, Victoria.  She was signing her NEW book!! 

She did such a great job.

And yes, I got my own signed copy and I can tell you that this book is just fabulous.  Victoria worked so hard on this and it really turned out wonderful.  Congrats, Victoria!!

And one more friend was spied at market....

PKM... Pam Kitty Morning!  She was manning the Lakehouse booth with Holly Holderman.  Pam was looking lovely as ever!  Good to see you!

Quilt Market ~ The Floor is Open!

Quilt Market ~ Schoolhouse

Hello Everyone,

I have returned home one day early from Quilt Market so that I can sit here in between power surges and outages from Hurricane Sandy to bring to you some of the sights from Quilt Market.

First all is well here, we made it home safely, but now we ride out the storm.

The first day at Quilt Market is always fun, we get to go to schoolhouse.  Hopping from room to room seeing new and exciting things that designers, authors, and companies have to offer the quilting world.

Let's take a peek at some of the things that I saw.

First up Auntie's Two....

These fabulous bags, baskets, and tuffets are made with batting strips and pre-cut strips they are super cool and sturdy too.  Love the look!  What do you think... should I carry this pattern line in my shop?

Then off to class with Bill Kerr... our most popular modern quilter.

Fabulous quilts and a great new fabric line.  You can find their books and patterns in my shop here.

Next up my friend Deb Tucker, from Studio 180 Designs.

Her wonderful quilts made with her ingenious rulers and patterns that can be found in my shop here.

Then my good friend Victoria's debut!! Here you can see her presenting her schoolhouse trunk show featuring quilts from her NEW book 15 Minutes of Play.  The book is fabulous!  I have my autographed copy and LOVE it!!  

Victoria ROCKED the schoolhouse... not only that her pants seemed to match her quilts too!! You will find her book in my shop in November... so stay tuned.

A New Venture

Hello Everyone,

I am very excited to announce that I am part of a NEW design team for Fabri-Quilt!!

I will be using some of their newest fabrics to create wonderful projects like table runners, small quilts, large quilts, totes, placemats, mug rugs... you name it... we will be doing it on Fabri-Quilt's Blog.

You will alway see an intro post here on my blog followed by the tutorial on Fabri-Quilt's blog.

A New Venture

Blogger's BOM... The Setting

Hello Everyone,

So this is it... the very LAST month!  Thank you for all who have participated and for those that haven't the links to ALL the tutorials are available FOREVER on my right side bar... yep... right over there...

Now to what you have been waiting for, my vision for the setting.

Here is a little sneak peek.

Here is what you will need to complete the top:

36 ~ 2.25" X 8.5" for sashing between blocks

24 ~ 2.25" X 2.25" squares for cornerstones between sashing

4 ~ 10 7/8" X 10 7/8" squares cut in half once on the diagonal for the setting triangles

2 ~ 9" X 9" squares cut in half on the diagonal once for the setting corners

2 ~ 2.5" X 44.25" strips for inner border (matches gray background)

2 ~ 2.5" X 46.5" strips for inner border (matches gray background)

96 ~ 2.5" X 6.5" rectangles for the piano keys borders

4 ~ 6.5" squares for border corners

2.5" X 6.5" rectangles for piano keys

Piano keys arranged in the color order that you would like.  I used the same fabrics that had been used in all the blocks for each month. 

Setting and corner squares need to be cut on the diagonal once.

Sashing strips.

Cornerstones for sashing.

Inner border.

Using the layout above you will layout your blocks in the format you would like.  Then place your sashing strips in between each block.  Place your cornerstones at the end of each sash.  I used two colors for my cornerstones.  

Then place your setting triangles and corners in and begin to sew the blocks, sashing, cornerstones and setting triangles together in rows, pressing as you go until the body of the quilt is complete.

Now you will add your inner border strips.  I used the same color as my background gray.  Add the sides first then the top and bottom.

Now layout your rectangles and four squares for your piano keys borders.  Sew the rectangles together to form your borders and then apply them to the body of the quilt.  You may have to ease in a little bit of fabric, but I mean a very little, when you apply the border to the body of the quilt.  

Once these are on you now can layer, quilt as desired and then bind.  Voila your quilt is done!!

Podcast Episode 39 Is Now Available!

A Perfect Weekend

 Hello Everyone,

This past weekend we were able to attend Family Weekend at my daughter's college.  We had a fantastic time.  

Arriving on Friday in time to take my daughter out to dinner for a birthday celebration for my hubs.  The night was wonderful.  

The next day we attended some activities around campus.

We went to the International Festival and enjoyed some Greek Folk dancing.  My best friend, while I was growing up, is Greek and I so enjoyed this segment.  It brought back memories.

Look at how high he was able to get!!!  Amazing, he must have some really great leg muscles.

Then we went to a play, dinner in the dining hall... had to experience what my daughter is eating.  I must say, I had Brazilian Stew and it was delicious.

Then we went to an improv show and laughed and laughed!! A great day! 

It was nice to have my family all together on a wonderful fall day!

One more surprise arrived in my mailbox yesterday...

Back at the beginning of the summer, I was asked by Windham Fabrics to design a modern quilt with the fabric collection Day For Night by Rosemarie Lavin.  As you know I LOVE black and white fabrics, so I could not refuse this opportunity to design a quilt.  It is now in their newest catalog and ready for Quilt Market later this week!!!  

I will be at Quilt Market!  If you are headed to market, let me know I would love to say hello.

Any way the design will be available as a FREE project when the fabric arrives in shops in January.  You will be able to download it from Windham's site.

A Perfect Weekend

All In A Day's Work

Hello Everyone,

On Thursday, I spent the day with a lovely group of ladies in Rhode Island!  I was the guest speaker and teacher at the Narragansett Bay Quilters.  We started off the day with a paper piecing class.  The students ere able to pick one of three patterns, Total Eclipse, Sunflower Illusions, or Desert Sky.  You can find the patterns here in my shop.

In the meantime, I wanted to show you some of the colors that my students used...

They all did a great job and I had a ton of fun teaching too!

After class we went for dinner and then came back and I did my lecture and trunk show.  My friend Tina from Seaside Stitches came to see me and brought her mom.  It was sooooo nice to see her and we actually had dinner together the night before.  Thanks, Tina for coming!

After my lecture, there was show and tell.  I love a good show and tell and here are some of the photos that I was able to take.
